Rooms are on the small side, with unremarkable decor
This 87-room, eco-conscious hotel is owned by the same company as the Jalta Boutique Hotel on Wenceslas Square. Unlike its sister hotel, the modern, mid-range Plaza Alta is located outside the city center, though a tram stops outside the hotel's door, and it's about 10 to 20 minutes to Old Town. Plaza Alta has a Mexican restaurant -- yes, even in Prague -- which is known for its excellent steaks. The budget-friendly hotel serves a free buffet breakfast to guests. Rooms, which come with satellite TV and minibars, are modern and clean with indistinctive decor, but the striped bedspreads liven things up. Travelers who want to be closer to the city center can try the Archibald City, which has a similar style and comparable rates.
Scene
Modern and nicely outfitted hotel, with festive Mexican restaurant and bar
The Plaza Alta is modern and clean. Its large lobby is outfitted with gray fabric couches, and the tray of green apples at the front desk signals eco-consciousness. It has a small lounge area by the bar with leather couches, and a children’s play area with books and stuffed animals. But the main spot to gather is in the 7 Tacos Mexican restaurant, which is festive and bright with a rainbow of colors and artfully weathered hardwood floors.
Location
In a barren residential area, with two tram lines stopping outside the hotel and a metro stop within walking distance
The Plaza Alta is located in a quiet residential area north of the Vltava River. There’s not much in the way of shops and restaurants nearby, but the nightclub Cross Club is within a 10-minute walk. Two trams that run to Old Town stop in front of the hotel, and guests can buy tickets from reception. The metro is also within a five-minute walk. Vaclav Havel Airport is a 20-minute drive or an hour by public transportation.
Rooms
Small rooms are clean and modern, if somewhat bland
The hotel has 87 rooms, including Standard and Executive Rooms, and Suites with sitting areas. Rooms are clean and modern, but the decor -- with green carpeting, striped comforters, and wooden furniture -- is unexciting. Toilets are housed separately from the small bathrooms, which have vanities, good counter space, and shower/tub combos. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea kettles, robes, safes, and hairdryers.
Features
Free buffet breakfast, Mexican restaurant, and small fitness center
The hotel serves a free buffet breakfast with both hot and cold foods. In addition, the on-site 7 Tacos Steak & Grill Restaurant serves Mexican dishes and steak, a large selection of tequila, and traditional mezcal, plus Czech cuisine. There’s a small fitness room with a few cardio machines and free weights, and a conference facility that can accommodate up to 60 people. Underground parking and laundry services are available as well. The hotel’s concierge can arrange restaurant reservations and book tickets. Plus bicycles are available to rent. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
