Small elevators for its size
Part of a small chain, Olympik Hotel Prague is advertised as a four-star property, but it doesn't earn those stars and feels more like a budget hotel. The 306 guest rooms are grimy, and guests report that items are often broken. The hotel, which is located in a rundown part of town about 10 minutes from Old Town on public transportation, has a bar and two restaurants, and gimmicky massage chairs in the lobby, but Wi-Fi comes with a fee. A breakfast buffet is included in the room rate, but guests give the food low marks. Rates can be low when booked through third-party sites, but there are better hotels in Prague with rates that are not much higher. Travelers might want to check out the Atlantic, which has similar or lower rates, clean rooms, and a better, more central location.
Scene
Large, impersonal lobby and dated decor in the restaurants
From the outside, this 19-story hotel looks like a bleak, Soviet-style apartment block. The lobby is large and well-lit but impersonal, with a scattering of black leather sofas. Oddly, there’s a koi pond in one corner and a few massage chairs by the entrance. The elevators are small for a 19-story building. The breakfast room looks more like a conference room, with long tables draped in garish orange tablecloths. The restaurants and bar look dated, with dark-wood paneling and red-and-gold striped chairs in one and flowery wallpaper and gaudy chandeliers in the other.
Location
In a rundown area about 10 minutes from Old Town by metro
The hotel sits on a busy road in a barren, rundown, graffitied area of northeastern Prague, surrounded by cracked, litter-strewn sidewalks. The Invalidovna metro station is down the street, and it’s about a 10-minute ride to Old Town and a 45-minute trip to Prague Castle. Vaclav Havel Airport is a 30-minute drive, or about an hour away on public transportation.
Rooms
Small, drab, and dirty rooms
Standard Rooms are small and spartan, with dated, unattractive wood paneling, drab carpeting, and worn-looking yellow bedding and wooden furniture. Suites are more modern, with colorful furniture -- the Bridal Suite has frilly white bedding. The small bathrooms have sliding doors that don’t lock, and there’s not much storage space around the sink. Narrow stall showers have accordion doors, and tile grout is showing its age. Bathrooms in the suites have tubs. Rooms are equipped with small flat-screen TVs, sparsely stocked minibars, safes, and hairdryers. But guests have reported that room amenities are often broken.
Features
Free breakfast, a la carte and buffet restaurant, Wi-Fi with a fee
The hotel includes breakfast in the room rate, but guests rate the food poorly. The Bohema restaurant serves Czech dishes and the Ikaros restaurant serves an all-day buffet. The Club Bar serves drinks and snacks. There is a daily fee for Wi-Fi. Conference rooms can be rented, and laundry services are available.
