Old Town Square

This historic boutique hotel pulls out all the stops when it comes to its dramatic fusion of classic architecture with innovative, ultra-modern style. The five-story, UNESCO-recognized 13th-century stone houses make for an impressive exterior, while the stately lobby has high ceilings, bright white walls, and striking chandeliers. Dark carpets and imposing high-backed chairs in deep purple velvet are set against floor-to-ceiling, theater-like curtains, contrasting with the simple but stylish white front desk, low bench with colorful cushions, and large modern wall canvases. Narrow but bright and elegant hallways continue the lobby’s design, while the small but pleasant courtyard-like enclosed terrace has attractive tile flooring. To enter the hotel, guests pass through its gated entrance and walk through a ground-floor restaurant and climb lots of grand-looking stairs (there’s no elevator).

Prague hotels don’t get more centrally located than this property. It's situated on the city's landmark Old Town Square. The pedestrianized square is filled with other hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, and food and drink stalls, with its astronomical clock a minute's walk from the hotel’s front door. The property is within walking distance of Prague’s major attractions, including the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn and the Prague National Gallery, both of which are a minute’s walk away, while City Hall is a four-minute walk, and Wenceslas Square and the National Museum are a six-minute walk. The Church of St. Martin in the Wall and the Municipal House classical music concert venue are both a seven-minute walk away, while it’s a 10-minute walk to the Charles Bridge over the city’s Vltava River. Prague National Theater is a 12-minute walk, and Letna Park is an 18-minute walk or 12-minute drive away. Nearby subway stations include Starometska and Mustek, both within a six-minute walk. Prague Castle is 12 minutes away by cab or 15 minutes by subway, while St. Vitus Cathedral is a 12-minute drive or 22-minute subway ride away. Prague’s main railway station is a 10-minute drive or 22 minutes by public transportation, while Vaclav Havel Airport is 24 minutes away by taxi or 33 minutes by public transportation.

The 10 rooms at the Old Town Square include spacious suites that mix classic architecture with modern design. Comfortable king-size beds with dark throws contrast with elegant white headstands set against black accent walls with built-in reading lights. High ceilings, impressive chandeliers, and huge windows with floor-to-ceiling curtains add to the room's elegance. Streamlined furniture includes modern white tables and chairs, large chrome-legged desks with contrasting white seats, and white benches at the foot of the beds. King Rooms sleep two; four-person Junior Suites add modern white three-seat sofa beds, and larger Family Suites sleep up to six and add a second bedroom.

Chic bathrooms, in cube structures built into the suites, are framed by elegant black walls. Inside, there’s beautiful dark gray heated floor tiling that matches the walls, metallic vanities with white ceramic vessel sinks, and large modern shower/tub combos with power showerheads. Bathrooms also include bidets, plus individual designer toiletries. Junior Suites separate toilets from the bathrooms, with both shower/tub combos and spacious walk-in separate shower stalls with power showerheads; Family Suites have luxurious double sinks.

Standard amenities include small flat-screen TVs (international channels are limited), phones, free Wi-Fi, safes, extensively stocked minibars, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Some rooms overlook the streets leading off Old Town Square, while others have dramatic unobstructed views of the square itself from balconies, but these rooms can be noisy. Connecting rooms are available, but there are a limited number of twin rooms; also note that, despite the "suite" name tag, none of the rooms have separate living spaces.

As a petite, historic property, the Old Town Square has a limited amount of on-site features. But they do provide an extensive breakfast that includes made-to-order eggs and plentiful coffee, and can be tailored to suit dietary restrictions. Room service delivers it, and guests choose the time, but it's not included in all rates. While there are no on-site fitness facilities, guests get free use of the gym, sauna, and steam room at the hotel's sister property, the Emblem, a three-minute walk away, along with discounted spa treatments.  Wi-Fi is free throughout, and the front desk can arrange airport transfers, which come with a fee.
