Bottom Line

With 136 rooms in the center of Prague 1, this three-pearl Neoclassical hotel is more about great value in a prime location than offering anything noteworthy on-site. It's within a 10-minute walk to Wenceslas Square. The historic building is charming. Rooms come with minibars, bathtubs, and flat-screen TVs; note that some rooms have tiny windows. Amenities are limited to free breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, and three meeting rooms. Rates here are hard to beat, but for slightly higher prices, the equally central Elite Hotel nearby is also historic, but has more charm and a restaurant and spa.

Scene

Historic building with simple interior areas

Housed in a former 1800s social institution, the hotel retains its original Neoclassical exteriors. In the lobby, fresh coats of paint and an ATM indicate some updates, but classic wood, and traditional ceiling lights look rather dated. There are plenty of brown leather sofas to relax on. The tile flooring doesn’t have the coziest effect, and elevators are small and usually slow. The old-fashioned decor persists in most other common areas, including dining spots and meeting venues. The outmoded look may not draw a young and hip crowd, but the property is both quiet and central, making it appealing to mostly couples and business travelers.

Location

In the historic town center, walkable to Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge

Just 10 minutes on foot from both Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, the hotel is within the historic town center and within walking distance to several points of interest, making the location a perk for tourists. Several restaurants, bars, and international chain stores surround the property, but noise doesn’t seem to be a problem. The National Theater is a nine-minute walk away, and Charles Bridge is a 15-minute walk away. There are also two metro stations under five minutes away on foot. Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral can both be reached in under 20 minutes via public transport. Prague’s international airport is a 30-minute drive away.

Features

Free buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi

Features here are simple, and most guests use the hotel for little more than sleeping and eating breakfast before heading out to explore the city. A breakfast room set with tables serves a daily buffet that’s included with room rates. The spread includes the usual European selection of cold cuts, breads, cereals, fruits, yogurts, tea and coffee. Room service is also available. There’s an old-fashioned counter bar in the breakfast room and a small bar in the lobby, but guests note that neither bar seems to operate regularly. There are no leisure amenities on-site, so guests won’t find a pool, gym, or spa here. There are three conference or meeting rooms and an event hall, which have capacities of 100 to 120 people. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Parking is available for daily fees.
