The 33-room King Charles Boutique Hotel Residence is a quaint upper-middle-range property that lacks the modern polish guests might expect based on the boutique reference in its name. Housed in a 1913 building in a quiet neighborhood, this hotel has a traditionally elegant style and is filled with antique replica mahogany furniture. Some of the large rooms have whirlpool tubs, though soundproofing is minimal and striped bedspreads feel a bit dated. A well-stocked buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. The hotel is not very central, but a tram stop is around the corner, making it a good, inexpensive option for travelers who are fine with using Prague’s well-regarded public transportation system.
Scene
A quaint, romantic throwback hotel
Located in a plain, pale pink building, the King Charles has a historic feel, filled with marble and dark woods. The reception area has sofas upholstered in velvet and brocade and is dominated by a chandelier. A small courtyard has a smattering of tables and chairs and a machine nearby offers free coffee. The atmosphere is quaint and romantic for couples and singles young and old, though due to the word "boutique" in the name, some guests might be expecting a more modern, polished property.
Location
In a quiet residential neighborhood, close to public transportation
The hotel is in Prague’s historic and residential Vysehrad neighborhood, far from the crush of tourists, and is just northeast of Vysehrad Castle, a historic fort built on a hill and an often overlooked attraction that can be reached on foot in 10 minutes. The Vltava River is also a 10-minute walk away. There are a number of restaurants nearby. The Albertov tram stop is a three-minute walk and it’s a 20-minute trip to Old Town and its historic structures, including Tyn Church. It’s a 20-minute drive to the Vaclav Havel Airport, but it takes about an hour via public transportation.
Rooms
Spacious, classically decorated rooms, some with whirlpool tubs
The hotel’s 33 rooms include Standard rooms for two guests, Superior rooms that can accommodate an extra bed, and Honeymoon rooms with four-poster beds. Decor is classic, with yellow walls, red and gold brocade fabrics, and headboards, nightstands, and armoires of thick, dark wood. The black or brown marble bathrooms are spacious, and some have whirlpool bathtubs, though there is nowhere to hang the handheld shower head. Rooms come with small flat-screen TVs, minibars, electric kettles, safes, and hairdryers. The rooms are not soundproofed, so neighbors can be heard. Striped bedspreads give the spaces a somewhat dated feel.
Features
Free buffet breakfast, coffee, and Wi-Fi

Reception is open 24 hours a day and guests can purchase tram tickets at the hotel. There is a garden with a variety of furniture for lounging. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
