With a central location, Hotel Salvator offers an intimate, mid-range experience within walking distance of Prague’s historic Old Town, shopping, and dining. This property has a well regarded and romantic restaurant serving cuisine with Latin American influences, a lounge with pool and foosball, and a Jazz Club in the cellar. The 63 homey guest rooms vary in decor -- but all are fairly outmoded. Still, all are equipped with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and kettles. There’s no air-conditioning here, though that’s not unheard of in many Prague hotels. Hotel Clement Prague is a good nearby alternative with a modern design and a free breakfast buffet, but no on-site restaurant.
Scene
Charming, historic hotel with a quirky design
Hotel Salvatore has a charming atmosphere with interiors full of colorful designs, historic floors, and antique pieces. The lobby does feel a bit small and cluttered thanks to a jumble of plants, art pieces, and posters hanging on the walls, as well as multiple shelving units; but the colorful floor tiles and wooden antique furniture give the area appeal. Quirkiness can be found in the exposed brick walls, curved ceilings, and antique pieces. Vintage movie posters and old newspapers wallpapering walls enhance the personality of the space even more, although it’s the hotel’s La Boca restaurant that's the real standout. Set in a courtyard, it has a Spanish vibe with bright colorful chairs and tables surrounded by an array of potted plants. There’s also a downstairs section in the Gothic cellar -- the Jazz Club -- that’s sleek with a purple color scheme and modern chairs. The property attracts all types of travelers, including couples, families, and friends who are drawn by its budget-friendly rates and spacious rooms in such a central location.
Location
Within walking distance of Old Town, shopping, and restaurants
The hotel sits in the city center, with plenty of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and boutiques lining the surrounding streets. Historic Old Town can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot, while the Jewish quarter, Josefov, is a 13-minute walk away. Nearby attractions include the Powder Gate and the Municipal House, both of which can be reached in five minutes. Prague’s biggest shopping mall, Palladium, is around the corner from the property. Charles’ Bridge is about a 20-minute walk from here, while Prague Castle is a bit of a hike on foot at around a half-hour -- though it's about 20 minutes via public transportation. The nearest bus and tram stop is a four-minute walk from the hotel, while the metro station is six minutes away. The main train station is 16 minutes away on foot. It’s a 25-minute drive to Vaclav Havel Airport, or about 45 minutes by public transportation.
Rooms
Homey rooms with flat-screen TVs, kettles, and minibars -- but dated decor and no AC
Hotel Salvator has been rolling out renovations of their rooms as of 2015. But while decor varies, both the renovated and un-renovated rooms have outdated decor. Older rooms have damask wallpaper, brass lamps, crimson drapes, and prints of artists like Salvador Dali on the walls. Updated rooms flip out the beige-and-red color palette for greens, tans, and browns, but ruffled curtains, chairs in '80s-style upholstery, and more Dali prints keep things less than elegant. Still, the taupe-colored furniture here is an upgrade from the generic blond-wood variety used in older rooms. All of the rooms have flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi, though no air-conditioning. Bathrooms vary as well -- some are smaller than others, while the more modern bathrooms have lovely blue tile. All include shower/tub combos or small showers, toiletries in wall dispensers, and hairdryers. Rooms with connecting bedrooms and small sitting areas are available. The hotel also offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with kitchens, which are located in a separate building that's a short walk away. Note that lower-level rooms might be subject to some traffic noise.
Features
Restaurant, jazz bar, pool table and foosball, public computer, tourist office, and free Wi-Fi
Hotel Salvator’s restaurant, La Boca, is one of its highlights -- a colorful dining space situated in the interior courtyard that serves dishes with Latin American influences. There’s also the trendy Jazz Club and Billiards Lounge in the cellars. In the mornings, a varied breakfast buffet of hot and cold items is available for a fee -- though it's included in Superior Room rates. There’s no gym on-site, but the hotel does offer a lounge with foosball and two public computers for guest use. A tourist office is conveniently on-site for guests to book tours and trips in the city. The hotel has a single meeting space that holds up to 40 people. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. There’s a limited amount of parking spaces available that can be booked in advance for a fee.
