Part of a small, privately owned chain, the 31-room Hotel Praga 1 is a clean and well located mid-range hotel in the city center, about a 10-minute walk to Wenceslas Square and a 20-minute walk from the major tourist attractions in Old Town. The standard double and triple rooms and two-room apartments are spacious, though simply decorated with striped bedspreads; bathrooms have tiny stall showers. A free buffet breakfast with hot food is served in the hotel’s charming basement beneath vaulted brick ceilings and there’s also a small, cozy lobby bar. While the rates are reasonable for the location, rooms at the Hotel Atlantic, on the east side of the city center, are much more colorful.
Scene
Basic property with a modern lobby and dark, cavern-like breakfast room
The Hotel Praga 1 has a classic look that’s a little worn in spots. Small touches, including flower arrangements and a gold material covering the front and back of the reception desk, bring life to the otherwise bland-looking lobby. A small bar area has several dark wooden tables and cream banquettes and armchairs and is decorated with artsy back and white portraits. The charming breakfast room is in the basement, down a steep concrete stairway, with brick vaulted ceilings. Overall the atmosphere is quiet and traditionally elegant, if lacking modern touches.
Location
In the city center, a short walk to Wenceslas Square and Old Town attractions
The hotel sits on a main road, surrounded by other hotels and businesses, at the edge of Prague’s Old Town. It’s about a 20-minute walk to attractions such as the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn and Charles Bridge, as well as a 10-minute walk to Wenceslas Square. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. It’s a 20-minute drive to the Vaclav Havel Airport, but it takes about an hour via public transportation. Guests can access a shuttle service from the airport for an extra fee. It’s also about 15 minutes by tram to Prague’s main train station.
Rooms
Spacious, simply decorated rooms with tiny stall showers
The 31 rooms consist of standard doubles and triples, as well as family-style apartments with one king bed and two twin beds. The decor is basic, with parquet wood floors, bland cream and green striped comforters, and slim, dark wood furniture. The rooms are quiet for the location and spacious, though the showers stalls in basic bathrooms are narrow. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, electric kettles with tea bags, small safes, and hairdryers. Wi-Fi is free.
