Bottom Line

Built in 1894 in the Art Nouveau style, the upscale, 32-room Hotel Liberty is near Prague's Wenceslas Square and Old Town. Baroque furnishings create a charming Old World atmosphere in rooms, some of which have balconies or terraces, while split-level suites feature exposed wooden beams in sitting areas and Prague Castle views. The hotel has a wellness center with a basic gym, though there's fees for using the hot tub and sauna. A nice rooftop terrace provides stylish lounge space, and the hotel's lively Italian cafe offers sidewalk dining. Travelers seeking a hotel with a more stylish, modern vibe might prefer the Vintage Design Hotel Sax, which is near Prague Castle.

Scene

Classic small hotel with lovely Art Nouveau style

Six floors of ornate Art Nouveau architectural details and black iron balconies adorn the Hotel Liberty, which was built in 1894. Iron gates lead into the narrow foyer, featuring gold antique light fixtures, a small wooden front desk, and a green-carpeted staircase with an intricate iron banister. The interior architecture is complemented by traditional furnishings and preserved Old World fixtures. Clusters of gold, blue, and gray armchairs are in the lobby lounge, which has newspapers and a computer for guests' use. Pylones French gift shop is on the ground floor, as is the hotel's lively Italian cafe, which attracts locals and tourists. On the rooftop, at the back of the property, is a modern and stylish terrace with chic rattan lounge furniture and dining seating. This hotel’s romantic interiors and the historic location attract many couples, but Hotel Deluxe Rooms and Suites are large enough to accommodate groups and families with children.

Location

On a bustling pedestrian street, near Wenceslas Square

The Hotel Liberty is on the Na Prikope shopping promenade, a pedestrian street with a huge array stores and cafes. Around the corner is Wenceslas Square, one of the city's bar and nightlife areas, while museums, galleries, cafes, restaurants, and bars surround the hotel. On the edge of Old Town, Prague's major attractions are all within walking distance, and it will take 10 minutes or less to reach sights like the Charles Bridge, Klementium, Old Town Square, and Prague Astronomical Clock. The Mustek - B Metro station entrance is just two minutes away on foot, and it’s a 10-minute trip to the Prague Castle by metro. Those in the mood for longer strolls through Prague's other historic areas like Mala Strana and the Jewish Quarter can reach the area around Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral in 25 minutes. Vaclav Havel Airport Prague is a 25- to 30-minute drive from the hotel. There’s an on-site garage, but the staff can also recommend nearby parking.

Rooms

Old World rooms and suites, some with balconies, terraces, or split-levels

The 32 rooms at Hotel Liberty come in three categories: Standard, Deluxe, and Executive Suites. Old World design elements are standard in all categories and include baroque floral drapes, carved hardwood furniture, gold-filigree light fixtures, and partial bed canopies. All rooms have large, double-glazed windows that keep the spaces bright, and the ornate style matches hotel’s historic architecture, though admittedly it won't be everyone's cup of tea (yes, you should expect to see lots of floral patterns). Some rooms have terraces or balconies with seating, and Executive Suites have exposed wooden beams that create a charming atmosphere along with slanted attic windows, separate living rooms, and views of Prague Castle. Deluxe Rooms have sitting areas and come with bathrobes, which can be requested at no extra charge in Standard Rooms. Deluxe Rooms, which can accommodate groups and families, can be as large as 43 square meters, or 463 square feet. White-tile bathrooms are elegant, with gray-veined marble sinks, large black-and-gold trimmed mirrors, hairdryers, heated towel racks, magnifying mirrors, toiletries, bidets (not in Standard Rooms), and showers or bathtubs with handheld showerheads. Executive Suites have whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms. One room is wheelchair accessible. All rooms are air-conditioned, and include tea- and coffee-making facilities (Deluxe Rooms and Executive Suites have Nespresso machines), minibars, and safes in wardrobes.

Features

Free breakfast, wellness center with a gym, and free Wi-Fi

For a small property, the Hotel Liberty offers an impressive amount of features on site. A rarity for a hotel in Prague's historic core, there's a small wellness center in the hotel's basement that includes a small fitness center with a few cardio machines and free weights. Unfortunately, there are fees for use of the wellness center's sauna and spa. The hotel's sidewalk cafe, Caffetteria Torino, serves Italian fare from a charming space. The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet with hot and cold options including fruit, breads, eggs, and meat, and is served in a lovely wood-paneled dining room. A computer is available for guests' use, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The hotel can arrange airport transfers and private car services and there is a tour desk on site for ticket and event bookings.
