The 31-room Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town is an upper-mid-range property that holds the title of the oldest family-run hotel in Prague’s Old Town. This historic boutique has family photos and charming details throughout. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, especially in the common areas, though rooms are a touch older and decorated in a traditional (bordering on tired) style. Rooms do have some nice touches, such as iPod docks, fresh flowers, and flat-screen TVs. The hotel is pet-friendly and
has free Wi-Fi and laptop rental, as well as an on-site Asian fusion restaurant and
bar. The free breakfast receives great reviews, but there is no on-site
parking. The central location is fantastic with many sights, restaurants, shops, and public transportation stops within easy walking distance.
Scene
Family-run historic boutique
Originally a brewery built in 1850, the
Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town has a rich history and a welcoming family
atmosphere. Open for over 100 years with six generations running the property,
this hotel is the oldest family-run hotel in the area.
Old family photos line the entrance in the lobby while music plays in the
hallways during the day. Antique chandeliers and lighting hang in all the
common areas and the staircases are complete with wrought iron spindles painted
green. Free wine is offered at the front desk, which looks pleasantly "old-timey" with wood,
brass, and a Roman numeral clock. Golem’s Garden, the outside bar area, is cozy
with black plastic furniture and green carpeting, as well as high yellow walls
for privacy. The on-site restaurant also has lovely vintage chandeliers along
with flowing drapes, black and tan leather chairs, and brown tile flooring. Greens,
yellows, and wood tones filter throughout the hotel and give it a homey yet
timeless feel -- although some may find it a bit dated.
Location
In the heart of Old Town, with many sights within walking distance
The Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town is located inside a quaint, cobbled square in Old
Town. The area is quiet with an Asian
wellness center next door, and restaurants, shops, and public transportation within walking distance. Additionally, under a 15-minute walk from the
hotel is the Charles Bridge, Republic Square, Saint Agnes Convent, Old Town
Square, and Palladium Shopping Center. A rental car is only necessary if you
plan to leave the city.
Rooms
Traditionally elegant rooms with free wine, fresh flowers, and iPod docks
Rooms have a traditionally elegant (verging on dated) feel with seafoam green or tan walls matched to green striped comforters and
blue carpets. Wood paneling covers the bottom half of the walls while cream or
brown leather chairs provide seating. Fully stocked minibars include
different drinks and there is free wine upon arrival. iPod docks sit
on side tables while fresh flowers adorn desk areas. Desks also fit the homey theme with old family
photos underneath the glass top as well as information of the hotel history. There are bathrobes
and air-conditioning as well. Some rooms have beautiful views of the square and
church. Bathrooms are older as well and have either a tub or a shower along with lighted makeup
mirrors. Older pink or tan tile lines the walls and a white sink attached to
the wall leaves little counter space in each.
Features
On-site bar and Asian restaurant; free Wi-Fi and laptop rental
The on-site Hazen restaurant serves Asian
fusion cuisine while the free hot and cold breakfast has more traditional items
including pastries, cheeses, meats, veggies, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.
The breakfast receives great reviews and there is also a bar, Golem’s Garden
Bar, with coffee and cocktails. Guests can borrow a laptop from the front desk
for free and there are concierge services available; room service has limited
hours. There is no on-site fitness center, but guests receive a
discount at a facility that’s within walking distance. The hotel is
pet-friendly, but only two cats or dogs per room, and there is free Wi-Fi
throughout.
