  • Bright, modern rooms with satellite TV and minibars

  • Excellent and extensive buffet breakfast included in room rate

Cons
  • Far from central Prague attractions

  • Rooms are not air-conditioned

Bottom Line

Hotel Golf is a 53-room, upscale property set next to a large park and golf course in the 5th District of western Prague. While its appeal to golfers is obvious, it's a 15-minute drive (or a 30-minute tram journey) to the capital's main attractions. Renovations completed in 2015 assure the hotel is smart and contemporary throughout, while solid facilities (for a small hotel) and a particularly good, free breakfast add value. Travelers seeking a similarly priced hotel closer to the main tourist spots should check out the NH Prague, but it doesn't include breakfast.

Scene

Communist-era property that underwent contemporary makeover and is popular with groups

While its boxy and uninspiring architecture dates back to the country's mid-20th century Communist era, three years of renovations have breathed new life into the Hotel Golf. Finished in 2015, the makeover can be seen inside and outside, from its crisp white facade and tidy modern signage to a sleek contemporary lobby space with low-profile furnishings, ceiling spotlights, and smart spiral staircase. Golf-themed hallways too are bright and fresh, with some yellow stairways featuring snazzy ankle-high strip lighting. Due to a large car park and nearby golf course, the majority of clientele are group bookings and vacationing couples.

Location

Next to a large park and golf course, the hotel is a 15-minute drive to central Prague.

The hotel is located off a main road and near a tramway that runs past the Kosíre-Motol Park and golf course in Prague's 5th District. While the surrounding greenery and woodland are pleasant, the location is a long way from the Czech capital's historic center and most of its tourist attractions -- the Prague Castle and Wenceslas Square are a 15-minute drive away. There's a tram stop about a five-minute walk from the hotel that connects to central Prague in a little less than an hour. The west-of-center location does mean easy access to the Vaclav Havel Airport, about a 15-minute drive away.

Rooms

Bright, modern rooms include free Wi-Fi and pillow menus, but lack air-conditioning.

The Hotel Golf has 53 rooms, all of which are decorated in a bright, contemporary white-and-yellow color scheme and have simple modern furnishings, thick carpeted floors, and golf-themed wall art. Amenities are pretty comprehensive and include free Wi-Fi, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and minibars, plus flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. Pillow menus are also available. Bathrooms are clean and modern, with walk-in showers and wall-mounted hairdryers. While fans are provided, the lack of air-conditioning can be a problem in the summer months.

Features

Extensive free breakfast buffet, modern Czech restaurant, and a small spa

A good-quality and extensive buffet breakfast of hot and cold items is included in the rate and served in a dedicated breakfast area. The stylish upstairs Restaurant 19 is open for lunch and dinner, serving modern Czech cooking, while a lobby bar features an impressive menu of regional beers. The on-site spa facilities include a sauna, whirlpool tubs, and various massage treatments. A fitness room is available and the hotel can help organize rounds of golf at the nearby club. Parking and Wi-Fi are both free.
