Bottom Line

The 62-room, mid-range Hotel Atlantic is one of five properties operated by the Small Charming Hotels group, and has served as a hotel since the 17th century, when it was a small inn called The Green Ox. Known as the Hotel Atlantic since 1935, it has some classic details, such as intricate molding in the Fiesta restaurant. Decor in the spacious rooms is colorful with fun artistic accents over the beds. The biggest plus is the hotel’s location, next to the Palladium shopping mall, around the corner from Na Příkopě, Prague’s main shopping street, and a short walk to Old Town attractions. The central location means that rooms facing the street can get tram noise, and not all rooms have air-conditioning, so light sleepers should request a room at the back of the hotel. Overall, it’s good value for the location and amenities, including a Cuban-themed bar that stays open late.

Scene

Historic hotel with Cuban-themed lounge

The atmosphere at the Hotel Atlantic is old fashioned with decor that is a mix of early- and mid-20th century styles. The clubby bar area, with a pool table, encourages lounging and embraces its Cuban theme, with tropical greenery behind panels of glass, black and white photos lining the yellow walls, and couches upholstered in gold velvet. The cafeteria-like breakfast and lunch room, where food is served in steam trays, is filled with long light wood tables and has intricate molding on the ceiling, edged in mint green. Overall the vibe is relaxed, if lacking modern polish.

Location

In Old Town, within walking distance of shopping and attractions

The hotel is located in a busy area, with easy access to trams and buses, at the eastern edge of Prague’s Old Town. Palladium, a large mall, is right down the street and Na Příkopě, Prague’s main shopping street, is a couple of blocks away. It’s a 10-minute walk to such attractions as the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn and a further 10 minutes to Charles Bridge, as well as a 10-minute walk to Wenceslas Square. It’s a 20-minute drive to the Vaclav Havel Airport or around 45 minutes via public transportation. Airport transfers are available from the hotel for an additional fee. It’s also about a 15-minute walk to Prague’s main train station.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with a mix of older and colorful decor

The hotel has 62 spacious rooms, including three handicapped accessible rooms and three designed for families. The rooms have mid-century, minimalist decor with simple wood furniture, somewhat drab green and orange carpeting, with more modern pops of color in the bed linens and in painted designs on the walls above the beds. Large bathrooms feature stall showers. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and small safes, though they lack minibars or fridges, as well as electric kettles or coffeemakers. Rooms facing the street get noise from the trams, and along with the lack of air-conditioning in some units, might be uncomfortable for some guests.

Features

Free buffet breakfast, traditional Czech food for lunch, and lounge with pool table

The Fiesta restaurant serves a free buffet breakfast with a number of hot dishes, as well as traditional Czech cuisine for lunch on the weekdays for an extra fee. The hotel does serve some of the lunch dishes at breakfast, which might surprise guests. The Havana lobby bar is open until the late evening, and serves Cuban cigars along with alcoholic drinks and coffee. There’s a popular pool table within the bar. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. A conference hall is available to rent for events. Parking (available in the hotel’s courtyard) and airport transfers, are both available for an additional fee.
