Hotel 16 is a
small, value hotel situated in the New Town district of Prague. While
its location isn't ideal for visiting the capital's historic sights, Wenceslas
Square is within a 15-minute walk and there's plenty of public transport close by. This
family-run property is well known for its particularly attentive and helpful
staff who are on hand around the clock, and while interiors feel a little dated
and basic, the hotel is immaculately clean and well-maintained throughout. Guest rooms, while not the most stylish, are cozy enough and have flat-screen TVs and nicely stocked minibars. The extensive breakfast buffet is included. For
those who don't mind being a bit removed from the tourist center, it's a great
choice and a very popular little hotel.
Scene
Small family-run hotel with a welcome and homey feel but dated decor
The Hotel 16 is
housed in a small, attractive building with a charming facade that blends
typical neoclassical elements with some Art Nouveau touches. Inside, this privately owned
hotel feels traditional but dated. The lobby is well-maintained with
plenty of cherry wood, a patterned, antique-style settee, and white walls. A granite-topped
reception desk sits next to a small bar beside which an elevator carries guests
to one of the hotel's three floors. The bar, open morning to night, has a liquor cabinet topped with two brass horns. Hallways are lined with various potted plants
and Prague-inspired modern artwork, while ornate, wrought-iron balconies
overlook the sky-lit central atrium. The ambience of this family-run hotel is
cozy and inviting, with particularly welcoming staff who put a real emphasis on
personal and attentive service. Guests tend to be tourist couples or single travelers looking for a quiet home base from which to explore the city.
Location
Located in Prague's New Town and a short tram journey from the historic center
The hotel is
located in a fairly residential area in the New Town district of Prague 2
towards the south of the Czech capital. It is positioned a bit away from the
main tourist attractions of the Old Town -- it's about 15 minutes' walk to Wenceslas
Square, for example. But there are tram stops within five minutes' walk that connect to the historic heart of Prague and the famous castle in around 20 minutes. Just over five minutes on foot is the landmark Charles Square and just
beyond is the Karlovo náměstí Metro station, which also connects to more lively
parts of the city.
Rooms
Basic rooms are traditionally styled with Art Nouveau touches; most have garden views.
The hotel has
just 14 rooms, all of which are traditionally styled with floral patterned
fabrics, polished cherry-wood paneling, and the odd Art Nouveau touch. The bedding in particular looks very dated. Rooms
are air-conditioned and include free Wi-Fi, tea/coffee facilities, well-stocked minibars, and
flat-screen TVs with international channels. Bathrooms are clean and relatively
modern, and include hairdryers and heated towel rails, though toiletries are
basic and the stall showers are a bit cramped. Many rooms have views directly over the hotel's garden, and even open
onto its terraces, while windows are double- and triple-glazed for noise. Junior Suites have separate sitting areas and crisp, white bedding.
Features
Free buffet breakfast, hot drinks all day, and Wi-Fi throughout
Although there is
no restaurant on-site and little in the way of public areas, a free buffet
breakfast is served each morning in the dining room (known for its four clocks that
all chime at different times). Breakfast includes a nice array of meats, cheeses, cereals, pastries, and eggs. Hot drinks are also available at the bar free of
charge throughout the day, and free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the
property. The bar stays open from early morning until 10 p.m., so guests can stop in for a nightcap before heading to bed. There's a meeting room with a PC and Wi-Fi, and space for up to 20 people. Sightseeing trips, airport transfers, and tram tickets can all be
arranged at the 24-hour reception.
