Bottom Line

The 12-room HOLIDAY HOME – Hotel, Pension is a family-run budget property that's a step above a hostel. Rooms are clean and simple, equipped with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, plus some have multiple beds, mini-fridges, and kettles. There's a shared kitchenette area for guest use. The hotel's location outside of the city center isn’t ideal, though it’s right by a metro station that gives access to the Old Town in 10 minutes, as well as other tourist sites. Anna Hotel provides a good alternative that offers free breakfast, an Internet corner, and a small lobby bar, but it's also far from sights.

Scene

Family-owned budget hotel with a homey vibe

Tucked among other historic buildings is this pleasant and modest family-run hotel that offers a good value and excels in cleanliness and warm hospitality. Decor is basic, if a bit old fashioned, but the owners prefer to focus on hospitality rather than aesthetics, which seems to suit most guests. Travelers must walk up a few stairs to reach the lobby, a simple space furnished with a basic wooden desk, small couch, and a number of brochures about the city. Since the hotel is mostly run by the owners, reception isn’t open 24/7, but they live on-site, making it easy to get in touch if need be. The shared kitchenette area is the hotel's only common area. The hotel attracts guests traveling on a budget who are drawn to the property's great value and charming service.

Location

Outside the city center, but near public transportation and a few attractions

The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood outside of the city center. It’s about a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute metro ride to the Old Town, and the metro station is just a two-minute walk from the hotel. Some attractions can be reached on foot, such as the Church of St. Ludmilla, which is just three minutes away, the National Museum, which is a 12-minute walk, and Wenceslas Square, which can be reached in 20 minutes on foot. Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge can both be reached in about 15 minutes via metro. There’s a number of restaurants and bars on surrounding streets, while Prague's main train station can be reached in 10 minutes by public transit, or 20 minutes on foot. Vaclav Havel Airport is about a 30-minute drive or 40 minutes on public transportation.

Rooms

Clean, basic rooms with flat-screen TVs; some rooms have kettles and mini-fridges

Rooms here are simple and fairly bare, with a no-frills style that's clean and homey. For the most part, blond-wood beds have white linens (though bunk beds have plaid bedding), and white walls are adorned with small framed pieces here and there as well as planters spewing greenery. Small tables are covered with colorful tablecloths and provide a place to sit or eat. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes, plus some have kettles and mini-fridges. Air-conditioning is not provided, though fans are offered in the summer. Bathrooms are small and have tiny showers and little counter space. Hairdryers and a bar of soap are provided. Note that some guests have complained of poor soundproofing and noise from neighboring rooms.

Features

Shared kitchenette and Wi-Fi

Holiday Home offers few features, and the ones that are provided are fairly basic. Guests can take advantage of a shared kitchenette, though it only has a sink, mini-fridge, silverware and plates, and a small table for dining. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Airport transfers and parking are available for a decent fee.
