Bishop’s House

Like so many hotels in central Prague, there's a good dose of history here. The main section of Bishop's House lives within a 16th-century building and includes the towers that were once the seat of the bishop in the 13th-century. While the building may be historical, interiors are a far cry from old, and the fresh style helps make this a popular spot for tourists in town to sightsee. Decor includes simple modern furniture, like black leather armchairs, alongside funkier details like vertical garden walls and backlighting to create a sleek, minimalist motif throughout the hotel. While lacking a full restaurant and bar, guests are welcomed with a glass of Prosecco upon arrival, as well as offered free tea and coffee in the lounge throughout the day. Due to its central location -- within walking distance to many tourist attractions -- Bishop's Hotel is mostly frequented by tourists who are looking to explore historic central Prague.

The hotel is situated in the Mala Strana neighborhood, to the west of the Vlatava River, and less than five-minute walk to both the Charles Bridge and Valdstejn Palace. There are plenty of cafes and shops all around -- including right downstairs -- though its side-street location means the immediate area is a bit less bustling than other parts of this tourist-heavy quarter. The castle is just a 12-minute walk away, while Old Town Square is a 15-minute walk across the river, passing sights like the Klementinum. For farther or hillier destinations, the Malostranske Tamesti Tram stop is just a three-minute walk from the hotel, or the Malostranska Metro station can be reached in seven minutes on foot. It's a 25-minute drive to Prague's Vaclav Havel Airport, and the hotel provides airport transfers (for a fee). 

Guest rooms at Bishop's House are decorated in simple, contemporary furniture with a clean, minimalist look. All rooms feature wooden flooring, with white bedding and couches, black leather desk chairs, and differing splashes of color on the bedspreads and pillows. The lacking artwork on the walls adds to the simplicity of the rooms, while the additional simple touches -- potted plants, large windows, and lighting under the bed -- add a little pizzazz. The hotel offers both Deluxe and Standard Rooms, with the option for guests to stay in the rooms in the tower (though, be prepared, as the elevator doesn't go to the tower rooms). It may be a good idea to request higher-level rooms as guests have complained of rooms on the lower floors -- particularly the ones facing the street -- as being quite noisy. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, coffee/tea-making facilities, minibars, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, safes, and work desks. Bathrooms are adequately sized, and include either a stall shower or bath as well as a variety of free toiletries.

Most guests simply use Bishop's House for its central location, as there aren't many additional amenities available within the hotel. The free buffet breakfast is the most raved about feature of the hotel -- especially the glass of Prosecco with breakfast. Guests are offered free tea and coffee in the lounge throughout the day, though there is no full restaurant or bar. The hotel offers limited parking (for a fee) outside of the hotel, as well as a parking lot close-by (also for a fee). Airport transfers need to be booked beforehand. For more active guests, the hotel offers bike rentals, and can assist with organizing sightseeing tours and excursions. Bishop's House is pet-friendly, at no additional cost to guests.
