This upper-middle-range hotel sits right on the Vltava River, just below the Charles Bridge. Despite being renovated in 2002, the16th-century building has retained much of its historic charm. Equally convenient to Old and New Towns across the river, the Archibald is pleasantly removed from the tourist crowds. It has two restaurants, including one with a vaulted-brick ceiling that serves a free buffet breakfast to guests, and an outdoor courtyard with seating. While the hotel isn't over-the-top luxurious, the 39 spacious rooms offer romantic views of either Kampa Square or the Vltava River, and some have historic details like beamed or vaulted ceilings. Travelers could compare rates and amenities with the neighboring Hotel Pod Vezi.
Scene
Charming and romantic, with tasteful decor
Located on a quaint, cobblestone street, the Archibald has a charming yellow-and-green facade reminiscent of an old farmhouse. Inside, the hotel has an old-fashioned but charming look, with a brass rail that surrounds the lobby's front desk, and arched windows and doorways. The decor is tasteful but not luxurious. The Archibald Restaurant Kampa is a striking space, with arched-brick ceilings, while the Archibald Restaurant Vltava has the feel of a small, modern bistro with views of the river. An outdoor interior courtyard, with benches, tables, chairs, and potted plants, is a lovely space in all weather.
Location
On quiet Kampa Island, just below the Charles Bridge, within walking distance to Old Town
The hotel sits on Kampa Island on the west side of the Vltava River, and it's separated from Mala Strana by a small canal called Devil’s Stream. It’s a quiet, picturesque area filled with houses. While the location is convenient, it's away from the crush of tourists in Old Town, which is a 15-minute walk across the river. Prague Castle is also within a 15- to 20-minute walk, and the nearest tram station is within a five-minute walk. Vaclav Havel Airport is a 20-minute drive, or about an hour's ride via public transportation.
Rooms
Spacious and filled with wood furnishings; some have river views
The hotel’s 39 rooms are spacious; some have wood beams, and one has an arched brick ceiling. The Riverside Deluxe room is long and narrow, with A-frame beams and a view of the Vltava River. All rooms have gleaming hardwood floors and contemporary, well-crafted wood furniture, with mattresses on the firm side -- some would say too firm. All rooms come with minibars, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, safes, and hairdryers. Beige- or gray-marbled tiled bathrooms come with shower/tub combos, towel warmers, and toiletries.
