Bottom Line

Antik is a mid-range hotel set in the center of Prague's historical Josefov neighborhood, close to a number of the city's most popular tourist sights. Its 30 rooms are large by local standards and have a simple, traditional look, but some show signs of wear and tear, like water-stained ceilings. Hotel features include a free breakfast buffet, an in-house Italian restaurant, a cafe, and free hotel-wide Wi-Fi. Guests with mobility issues should note that some of the rooms on the third floor are only accessible by stairs, but there is an elevator to the second floor. Rates here are competitive but travelers looking for something fresher and more modern could considerfusion hotel prague, though its location is a little farther from top sites.

Scene

Smallish tourist hotel set in an attractive neoclassical building

Hotel Antik occupies an attractive three-story building painted in two-tone pink on a charming cobblestone street of old buildings with restored neoclassical facades. The reception area takes up a narrow hallway, and aims for traditional elegance, with armchairs, antique-looking furniture, elegant light fixtures, and a grandfather clock, but the result is more old-fashioned than elegant. The cramped space leaves no room for a lounge or seating area, and the only areas of the hotel where guests can mingle are in the restaurant or the cafe/bar area -- though these spaces are far more inviting with cushy seating, chandeliers, and airy skylights. Though the building has an elevator, some guest rooms are accessible only by stairs, a potential hazard for guests with mobility issues. The majority of guests staying here are leisure travelers wanting easy access to city center attractions.

Location

Near Old Town and the Staromestska subway station

Antik is situated on a main street of the Josefov district (the former Jewish quarter) in Prague's historical center. Old Town Square is just a few minutes walk away, as well as other tourist attractions like the old Jewish cemetery, and Charles' bridge. Staromestska subway station is also walking distance away, and many restaurants, cafes, and bars are to be found close by, making this a convenient location for tourists.- Five-minute walk to the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Square

  • Six-minute walk to the Old Jewish Cemetery
  • Eight-minute walk to Staromestska subway station
  • 10-minute walk to Wenceslas Square
  • 13-minute walk to Charles Bridge
  • 10 minutes to the State Opera by public transit
  • 13 minutes to Kafka Museum by public transit
  • 15 minutes to Prague Castle by public transit
  • 18 minutes to Golden Lane by public transit
  • 21 minutes to Vysehrad Fort by public transit
  • 22 minutes to St Vitus Cathedral by public transit

Rooms

Simple, old-fashioned rooms with minibars and small flat-screen TVs, but some wear and tear

Done up in a simple, classical style, rooms vary a bit in their decor, but most feature wall-to-wall carpeting in burgundy or emerald green and faded furniture in warm mahogany or dark teak tones. Overall, rooms have an old-fashioned look emphasized by floral-print bed runners. Rooms vary in layout as well, and one Economy Room we visited had an odd duplex configuration with stairs leading to cramped rooms under a pitched ceiling. Air-conditioning, minibars, and safes come standard, as do (smallish) flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms have fresh tiling and are fitted with either shower/tub combos or roomy walk-in showers. Towel-warming racks, hairdryers, and free toiletries are provided. Note that past guests have complained of signs of wear and tear such as water-stained ceilings and loose skirting boards. Rooms facing the street can be noisy.

Features

Free breakfast buffet, Italian restaurant, cafe/bar, on-site parking, bicycle rental, and free Wi-Fi

While Antik doesn't have a ton of extra features, the hotel does offer a free continental breakfast of fruits, cheeses, and baked goods served buffet-style in the on-site Ristorante Anna. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner, with a menu of Italian pasta and pizza dishes along with local delicacies. There's a cozy cafe/bar as well, adjacent to the restaurant. Parking (for a fee) is available directly across the street, and should be reserved in advance. Guests can also get around via bicycle, as the hotel offers rentals. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and a computer is on hand in reception for guest use. The hotel shares its ground floor with a small antique and souvenir shop. Pets are welcome.
