The 398-room Wyndham Palm Aire is a big resort with five pools, a slide for kids, and a pool bar. The location is within walking distance of two supermarkets, making it easy to utilize the modern in-suite kitchens. Rooms are updated and fresh with modern furniture; some bathrooms have nice whirlpool tubs plus separate stall showers. There is a full-service spa and fitness center on-site, but distance from the beach and main shopping area are drawbacks. Due to its suburban location away from the waterfront, prices are often less at this hotel than other mid-rage properties. Visitors looking to stay closer to the action might consider the Riverside Hotel, a more centrally located (and more expensive) option on popular Las Olas Boulevard.
Scene
Big chain resort
Wyndham Palm Aire is a mid-range resort located in a suburban area of Pompano Beach, next to the Palm Aire Country Club. The lobby is as attractive as the guest rooms, with two-story ceilings, light wood-like floors, and a colorful fish tank. The building’s exterior is also appealing, surrounded by trees and other greenery. It is a spacious, airy property with a relaxed atmosphere, but some guests might find it isolated (the beach and trendy shopping are not within walking distance).
Location
Located inland and far from major tourist attractions, including the beach
The resort is adjacent to Palm Aire Country Club in a not-so-touristy part of Pompano Beach. Within a 10-minute walk are a Walmart Supercenter, Winn-Dixie grocery store, Ruby Tuesday restaurant, and Redbox movie rental kiosk. There’s no direct beach access, but guests can take a free shuttle to the beach at the resort’s sister property, Wyndham Royal Vista -- about a 15-minute ride. The resort is also about a 15-minute drive from the trendy restaurants and boutiques of Las Olas Boulevard.
Rooms
One- and two-bedroom suites available with full-size kitchens
The newly renovated rooms feature brown and plum-colored upholstery, dark wood furniture and cabinetry, granite kitchen countertops, and light tile flooring. Room options include studios, one-bedroom condos, and two-bedroom condos. Studios have a kitchenette, while larger units feature a full kitchen with full-size refrigerator, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. All units have a private balcony, and many have a whirlpool tub in the bathroom or bedroom area. Some include a washer/dryer.
Features
Four pools, slide, tennis courts, and fitness center
The all-suite resort is chock full of recreational amenities, including four swimming pools plus a separate children’s pool with a water slide, fountains, and a wading area. Then there are courts for tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, and racquetball. The brightly lit fitness center is better-equipped than that of some hotels, with nine treadmills, stationary bikes, weight machines, a sauna, and steam room. In addition, aerobics, yoga, and Pilates classes are available for a fee. There’s also an eight-hole miniature golf course and a full-service spa. However, dining options are limited. The only on-site restaurant is an outdoor pool bar serving items such as sandwiches and cocktails, and it's only open in the afternoon.
