The Beachcomber Resort and Villas is a mid-range resort with 143 rooms, located on a private beach. There are tropical-inspired, family-friendly rooms and villas and a full-service restaurant, but some rooms have cleanliness issues (and are a touch dated). There are two pools and a poolside bar on-site. The location is ideal for a relaxing getaway, but it’s far from nightlife, shopping, and other South Florida attractions.
Scene
A family-friendly resort with a laid back, tropical vibe
The Beachcomber Resort and Villas has a tropical theme from the tall, lush plants adorning the walkway leading up to the main entrance to inside the lobby with terra cotta tile floors, oversized wooden fans, and furniture upholstered in turquoise and lime green. The casual, relaxed vibe continues in the on-site dining options, including the casual Ocean Grill Restaurant and the poolside tiki bar, with tables on the patio and right on the beach.
Location
Close to the beach and water sports, but attractions are a car or cab ride away
The Beachcomber is located on busy South Ocean Boulevard, one of Pompano Beach’s main thoroughfares. The Atlantic Ocean and water sport rentals are just steps away, but the only businesses within walking distance are other hotels. The resort is about a 10-minute drive to downtown Pompano Beach, a 20-minute drive from downtown Fort Lauderdale, and a 40-minute drive from downtown Miami.
Rooms
Tropical decor and a price range for every budget
Options range from lower-priced rooms to large villas suitable for families. In each case, the decor is European-meets-tropical, featuring palm tree artwork and wood furniture with carved decorations. While some guests report the pleasure of hearing the ocean as they sleep, others complain of smelly carpeting, dirty bathrooms, and weak air-conditioning units. One- and two-bedroom villas feature vaulted ceilings, dining rooms, living rooms with sleeper sofas, and private bedrooms. Villa kitchens each include a wet bar area with a microwave and refrigerator. All rooms include sinks, coffeemakers with free coffee, safes, ironing boards with irons, flat-screen TVs, and wall-mounted hairdryers. In economy rooms, mini-fridges are available for a fee.
Features
Private beach, tiki bar, and large swimming pool
The major selling point for this resort is that it sits on 300 feet of private beach. Notable on-site features include a full-service restaurant that offers hot breakfast (for a fee), lunch, and dinner, in addition to the straw-covered poolside tiki bar with patio seating and seating right on the beach. There’s no gym on-site, but guests can use a nearby gym for free. The business center is tiny. There’s only one ice machine for all 143 units, and it’s often out of order.
