The Hampton Inn Pittsburgh's small lobby features soft lighting and two living room spaces with brown leather sofas. It's a noticeably snug space with lower-then-average ceilings. The brown laminate plank-style floor and wood chairs with brown leather seats give it a slight rustic vibe, while the stand-alone gas fireplace adds some warmth. Unlike some Hampton Inn properties, the breakfast room and lobby are two separate areas, helping to give the feeling of a little more space. In the corner, you'll find the hotel's two-computer business center. Artsy black and white photos on the walls and colorful vases on shelves add a stylish element to the brown-and-beige decor. This hotel stays busy with business travelers during the week, while weekends see more sports fans and other leisure travelers.

This Hampton is located on McKnight road, a major thoroughfare that runs directly into Interstate 279 (about five minutes away), which leads south into downtown Pittsburgh. Be aware that the entrance road to the hotel, McKnight Road, is a slightly confusing divided street only allowing for one-way entrance into the hotel. Though only a 10-minute drive from downtown, the area is quiet, surrounded by a large green space and cemetery, and, thanks to the lack of walkability or free shuttle to town, can feel more secluded than it actually is. Several restaurants are about a five-minute drive away or less. Downtown attractions such as PNC Park, Heinz Field, and Point State Park are seven to 10 minutes away driving, and the Strip District and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center are 10 to 13 minutes by car. Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh also are seven to 10 minutes away by car, and Carnegie Mellon University is about 15 minutes away. Pittsburgh International Airport is a 25- to 30-minute drive. A bus stop is a two-minute walk from the hotel, and bus service to downtown takes about 40 minutes. 

This Hampton Inn's 107 rooms don't stray much from the expected, standard chain-hotel decor, and lighting is a bit dim. Rooms feature dark rust and beige patterned carpet, mauve and beige walls, and a small window emitting the only natural light. Cherry-tinted wood comprises the furniture, and bed accents and curtains are in beige. Most rooms have brown upholstered armchairs. This is an older Hampton, and while clean and generally well-maintained with comfortable beds, it's beginning to show its age. Some guests report nicked up furniture, worn or stained carpet, and other minor maintenance issues. Standard room options include King, Double Queen, and Double Double. All rooms have mini-fridges, but only select King and King Studio Suites have microwaves. Those slightly larger rooms also have upholstered sleeper sofas. All rooms come with 32-inch flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, lap desks, ergonomic office chairs, and Neutrogena toiletries. Bathrooms are average size, and some suites have jetted tubs. Outside noise is more prominent in street-facing rooms, while several guests report being able to hear hall noise through the door.

This Hampton Inn comes packed with the standard chain features expected from this brand, starting with the free daily hot breakfast and weekday to-go bags with breakfast sandwiches. The on-site convenience store sells soups and frozen entrees to microwave, as well as snacks, beverages, and sundries. Free coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day in the lobby, but there's no full restaurant or bar on-site. The business center has two computer stations with Internet access and a printer, and there is a meeting space for up to 40 on site. The fitness center is contemporary with several cardio machines and free weights, while the indoor pool can feel a bit basic with no loungers, depths maxing out at five feet, and a collection of plastic lawn chairs. Valet laundry and dry cleaning services are available, and there are self-serve laundry facilities on site. Free weekday newspapers and a guest safe deposit box are available in the lobby, free parking is available, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. Only service animals are allowed in the hotel. This is a non-smoking hotel.
