Pittsburgh-Downtown is popular with both convention goers, sports fans, and families and is conveniently located across the river from the major sports facilities, and between the city’s convention center and the Strip
District’s entertainment attractions. You can expect to find standard Hampton Inn features such as free hot breakfast, small pool, free parking, and free Wi-Fi and 143 clean and spacious rooms with coffeemakers; suites add wet bars, mini-fridges,
microwaves, and sleeper sofas. Downtown is at least 20 minutes by foot and there is no shuttle service. Beware of rate spikes that can be on par with rates at the upper-middle-range Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station
Square on the waterfront.
Scene
Typical Hampton Inn popular with sports fans, business travelers, and families
Recently renovated in 2014, the Hampton Inn and Suites Pittsburgh - Downtown is a popular spot for business travelers, sports fans, and families. A nearby convention center makes it a favorite for convention delegates, while the three welcoming flags of the city's professional sports team and free parking attract sports fans. Thanks to the large size of the suites, free breakfast, and pool, this hotel is also a big draw for families. Overall, the hotel is your typical Hampton Inn -- clean and comfortable with a bright
lobby featuring laminate wood floors and several sitting areas. Similar to other Hampton Inns, the just-off-the-lobby breakfast area consists of a long white table and a few smaller tables, modern hanging light fixtures, and a large flat-screen TV.
Location
Convenient to sporting events, convention center, and Strip District
The Hampton Inn & Suites Pittsburgh - Downtown is situated in a busy area on the outskirts of
downtown, less than two blocks from the Allegheny River and David L. Lawrence
Convention Center (a seven-minute walk to the entrance). Some restaurants are
within a three- to four-minute walk, and the Senator John Heinz History Center is
a three-minute walk. The heart of the Strip District’s shops, clubs, and
restaurants can be reached in about five minutes on foot. The Amtrak Station and Penn Avenue at
11th Street public transit station are a six-minute walk, and the
closest T subway station (Wood Street) is a 15-minute walk. PNC Park, Heinz
Field, Point State Park, Market Square, Rivers Casino, CONSOL Energy Center,
and the Andy Warhol Museum are five to 10 minutes by car or roughly 20 to 30 minutes via public transit. Drive
times to Duquesne University, University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon
University are eight, 12, and 14 minutes, respectively. Pittsburgh
International Airport is a 25- to 30-minute drive, or about an hour via public transportation.
Rooms
Spacious rooms with coffeemakers and lap desks; suites with sofa beds and wet bars
The guest rooms have pleasant, traditional room decor featuring green and gold patterned carpets, burnt orange
accents, soft beige walls, and earth toned drapes. Furniture is reddish brown while ergonomic office chairs at the desks are black.
Standard rooms come in King or Double-Queen options and are spacious and clean, though upgrades to suites get you more space (either in a studio or one-bedroom layout). Some of the rooms can feel a bit dark, with just a single window providing natural light. Standard amenities include coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, lap desks, and flat-screen TVs, and suites add sofa beds, wet bars, mini-fridges, and microwaves. All Standard Rooms are nonsmoking, while some Suites allow smoking. Comfortable bathrooms feature shower stalls with sliding glass doors or standard shower/tub combos with curtains. You can expect wood vanities with light granite tops and beige floor tiles and Neutrogena toiletries. Note that the vanities in the Suites are located outside the bathroom, and some Suites have whirlpool tubs.
