This family-owned budget hotel has some of the lowest rates in the area, with a location to match any other along the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. The common areas in particular feel quite dated, with an aesthetic somewhere between a high-school cafeteria and a furnished basement, but almost all of the rooms are large, updated, and clean (there are occasional exceptions in this aging building). Though small, the indoor and outdoor pools -- along with a game room -- make for kid-friendly activities in any weather. Up the road, The Inn On The River is also independently operated, considerably nicer, and has more amenities, but it's tough to beat the rock-bottom rates here.
Scene
Partially renovated budget hotel popular with tourists and families
This 154-room hotel advertises "Low Rates" on the roadside sign out front, setting the stage for low expectations, but, despite the old building and outdated decor, the rooms are pleasantly clean and straightforward. The family-friendly amenities attract families with small children; otherwise, most guests are tourists just looking for a clean and affordable place to stay while exploring Pigeon Forge. Apart from the pool areas, there are few common areas where guests can hang out; the game room is tiny and the breakfast room doesn't lend itself to lingering. The front desk is also inexplicably separated from the rest of the small lobby by floor-to-ceiling windows, with an open balcony above (that joins the two spaces) and a small, dark lounge area on the second story.
Location
Centrally located one block off the Parkway
Just off the Parkway, the Park Tower Inn puts all of Pigeon Forge's attractions within easy access. Several rides and attractions are right across the street, with even more just minutes down the Parkway; mini-golf and many restaurants are within walking distance. A gateway town to the Great Smoky Mountains area's scenic mountain views and outdoor activities, Pigeon Forge is home to the famed Dollywood theme park (a 14-minute drive from the hotel). The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a 25-minute drive, through nearby Gatlinburg.
Rooms
Large, clean, and basic, with connecting balconies
All the rooms are surprisingly large and most have been updated with new carpets, paint jobs, and furniture. The decor consists of white and beige walls and generic, contemporary wood furniture. Each Standard Room has a king bed, sofa, and desk, or two queen beds and a small table with two chairs. Bathrooms have separate sink and vanity areas and basic shower/tub combinations. Most rooms have balconies, but they lack privacy, connecting to neighboring rooms with only a small railing between them. Rooms with gas fireplaces, in-room whirlpool tubs, kitchenettes, and handicap facilities are available. All have mini-fridges, microwaves, and flat-screen TVs.
Features
Two small pools, indoor lazy river, game room, and free breakfast
It's common for hotels in the area to have both indoor and outdoor pools, but the Park Tower Inn's small indoor facility is open late -- and is the only one in the area to have a year-round, indoor lazy river with plenty of inflated inner tubes on hand. The outdoor pool is small and the hot tub fits maybe two people, but the sun deck has plenty of loungers. A windowless game room has a pool table, air hockey, and a few arcade games, as well as a change machine. There's also a small, carpeted fitness room, with a single treadmill and a few cardio machines. The breakfast room won't win any design awards with its cafeteria seating and drop-ceiling fluorescent lights, but the daily hot breakfast, including biscuits and gravy, is free.
