Scene
Upscale seaside hotel with palm tree-shaded pools and lots of repeat guests
Originally a restaurant, The Boathouse Phuket has been attracting couples with its postcard-worthy views since 1989. The property underwent renovations both in 2012 and 2017, creating a beachy, upscale hotel with a laid-back atmosphere. The hotel has a phenomenal location along beautiful Kata Beach, and numerous restaurants, bars, and shops are within easy walking distance. The entrance is marked by a charming zigzag exterior, while interiors are done in nautical-inspired whites and blues, with cozy white armchairs and sailboat artwork in the lobby, and porthole windows in some rooms. Guests tend to hang around the small oceanfront pool -- where loungers are often occupied -- or on the adjacent beach, though beach chairs aren't provided. Also be aware that smoking is allowed in public areas, including at the pool. The hotel sees mostly couples on vacation, many of which are repeat visitors.

Rooms
Stylish, elegant rooms with flat-screen TVs, showers, and sea views
Rooms were renovated in 2017, updating them with a chic, beachy style that's contemporary and comfortable. Expect mostly neutral and blue hues throughout, with wood floors topped by rugs, brown couches, and big windows. Nautical details include rope accents on dresser handles and hanging mirrors, porthole windows from the bathrooms to the bedrooms in certain units, and pops of blue in metal headboards. Some, but not all, rooms have balconies. All units have at least partial sea views, and some suites have terraces with loungers. Rooms are well-sized, starting at 36 square meters (388 square feet). Standard amenities consist of flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, desks, espresso machines and kettles, safes, umbrellas, bathrobes, slippers, and sitting areas. Free jars of peanuts and cookies are a lovely perk. Sleek bathrooms have showers and many add separate bathtubs. Hairdryers and a full range of toiletries are provided.
Features
Oceanfront infinity pool, hot tub, and a seaside restaurant serving stellar free breakfast buffets
As the hotel's location on Kata Beach is its biggest selling point, features here take advantage of the sand. The small infinity pool overlooks the ocean, and it's surrounded by many loungers. However, the pool is often crowded and lounge chairs are usually occupied. A large, peaceful hot tub with some adjacent seating is also available. Note that guests will need to rent beach chairs from vendors. A next-door spa provides a variety of treatments and a small fitness center offers a handful of cardio machines, free weights, and strength-training equipment. The Boathouse Restaurant serves Thai and international cuisine all day, with both indoor seating and a large alfresco terrace overlooking the beach. All rates include a substantial breakfast consisting of a varied cold buffet spread -- think meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastries -- and made-to-order hot dishes. Inside, the Wine Cellar bar offers over 600 unique wine labels, in addition to coffee and cocktails. A poolside bar is also available. Cooking and cocktail making classes are both available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Parking is free.
