The 158-room Centara Kata Resort Phuket is a family-friendly complex located in the popular Phuket resort area of Kata Bay. There are plenty of facilities for all ages including three swimming pools (one of which is just for adults), an outdoor playground, and on-site spa. All rooms extend to an outdoor space and suites provide for (minimal) self-catering wet bars. Prices are definitely at the cheaper end for this type of hotel, but the property's lack of proximity to the beach is a bit of a compromise.
Scene
Family-friendly resort complex set in neatly arranged tropical gardens
Entrance to the Centara Kata Resort Phuket is under a relatively discreet and unassuming Thai-style, fountain-fronted portico which leads into a quiet, gracefully arched lobby where there's a simple, stone-effect reception desk illuminated by traditional lanterns. Neatly paved paths wind though extensive and well-maintained gardens flanked by immaculate lawns, palm trees, and exotic vegetation. The complex is comprised of clusters of several buildings, largely centered around the hotel's largest Emerald pool and designed in a combination of traditional Thai and contemporary style architecture. Popular with families with kids, the resort has a distinctive holiday atmosphere, but it maintains some child-free areas to ensure opportunities to relax in peace.
Location
Set in the heart of the popular tourist spot of Kata in southeast Phuket
The resort is located in the middle of the popular Kata Bay area of Phuket in the southwest of the island. The area is full of bars, restaurants, and other resorts, while the golden sandy stretch of Kata Beach is about a 10-minute walk away. The neighboring Patong Beach has more in the way of nightlife and is about 15 minutes away by tuk-tuk, while the longest of the three beaches, Karon, is about 20 minutes away on foot. Phuket Airport is within an hour's drive to the north of the island, while a flight from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport takes around an hour and 15 minutes.
Rooms
All rooms open to balconies or terraces; suites include wet bars
The resort has 158 rooms, all of which are decorated in a smart, fresh, and colorful style with dark wood furnishings and tiled floors. All rooms are air-conditioned and come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and Wi-Fi (for a fee), while suites include wet bars and separate seating areas. Each room opens to a furnished terrace or balcony, many overlooking the pool, and while bathrooms are clean, some could use a renovation.
Features
Three swimming pools with poolside drink service; one has a slide and another is adults-only
The resort has three swimming pools -- one with a water slide for kids and another is adults-only -- all of which are surrounded by sun loungers from where guests can order refreshments. The Seasons Restaurant offers a mix of Thai and international flavors, while there's also a poolside eatery and room service is available throughout the day. A dedicated spa provides a range of relaxation for adults, and there's a mini-club and play area for the little ones. There's also a small, modern fitness center. All in all, it's all the facilities you'd expect in a large family-focused resort complex.
