Bottom Line

CC's Hideaway is an upscale boutique hotel
with a hip and colorful vibe set on a peaceful hilltop overlooking the Phuket
resorts of Kata and Karon. Being positioned far from the beach can feel
isolating, but that gives the hotel a particularly secluded and tranquil ambiance
-- perfect for its rooftop yoga or meditation classes. Some rooms benefit from
superb sea and sunset views while -- unusual for the area -- its pool is open
into the evening. All in all, the location won't appeal to everyone, but CC's is nonetheless
an intimate retreat away from the crowds with relatively affordable rates.

Scene

Hip and colorful hilltop retreat with playful and fun-loving vibe

First opened in 2005 as CC Bloom’s Hotel
(from the movies Beaches), the property was transformed in 2009 under the
same management into CC’s Hideaway -- a hipper and more colorful incarnation
with a young-ish vibe and green philosophy. Housed in a three-story, modern
block that slopes up a hill, the hotel's architecture immediately distinguishes
itself from the norm. Inside tones are vibrant and primary with a funky design that integrates Thai flourishes and tropical palms. Its
American owner has also filled the property with fun, contemporary art pieces
that sit side-by-side with traditional tapestries; his playful interior
design choices can be seen throughout the hotel. This gay-friendly property
attracts a more liberal and fun-loving crowd looking for a quiet
oasis away from the bustle of the tourist center.

Location

Peaceful, breezy setting high on hilltop overlooking Kata and Karon beaches

The hotel is located high up on the
hillside overlooking Phuket's Kata and Karon beach resorts on the southwest of
the island. The property’s location on the outskirts of town is remote with
little of interest in the immediate area and the beach well over a mile away.
Its setting, however, means its more serene than other resorts and offers some
of the area's finest panoramic views as well as a truly secluded retreat feel.
The hotel offers a free shuttle service to all three local beaches, while an
airport transfer can also be arranged for a fee -- Phuket International Airport
is about 45 minutes north by car. Flights to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport
take an hour and 15 minutes, in addition to boarding time.

Rooms

Rooms adorned with Thai crafts and contemporary art -- some with sunset views

CC’s has 42 rooms in total, all of which
are decorated in simple, light tones with decorative textiles, Thai ceramic
antique reproductions, and original contemporary art pieces. Rooms are air-conditioned
with free Wi-Fi, minibars, and wall-mounted widescreen TVs with premium
satellite channels. Sliding doors open to furnished balconies -- most with pool
or distant sea/sunset views -- while tiled bathrooms have spacious walk-in
showers and contemporary design bath-ware. Beds feature European pocket-spring technology while furnishings are custom designed and
locally upholstered.

Features

Rooftop yoga classes and sunset cocktails

The hotel is centered around the outdoor
swimming pool, surrounded by plenty of sun loungers and parasols. More
sunbathing space can be found on one of the rooftop terraces with views toward
the sea. The second wood-decked terrace is used as a yoga studio, offering
regular classes with qualified teachers for all different levels, as well as
meditation groups. A breakfast buffet is served each morning in the Refuge
Restaurant (generally not included in rates) which also offers a menu of
Thai-focused dishes and a few Western favorites. The hotel's Sanctuary Bar
serves signature cocktails accompanied by sunsets over Kata Bay.
