Dated decor shows signs of wear
Hectic location not ideal for all travelers
Crammed among shops and bars on the main street that runs through Patong, the 100-room Blue Ocean Resort caters to vacationers who want to be immersed in the city's hustle and bustle. Guest rooms are spacious and clean, with free bottled water and rainfall showers. At the center of the hotel is a large pool with plenty of lounging space and a poolside bar; the beach is also just a short walk away. The hotel also serves a free daily buffet breakfast, and there's a spa offering massages and body scrubs. However, the property is showing signs of age, and much of its decor is dated and clashing. Guests wanting a more stylish atmosphere may want to check out the Banthai Beach Resort & Spa, a few minutes' drive north.
Scene
Vacation resort with cluttered, clashing interiors popular with vacationers
The Blue Ocean Resort is housed in a pinkish concrete building squeezed next to shops and a tattoo parlor on Patong's main thoroughfare. Despite its location, the hotel is fairly quiet, but has a cluttered vibe in the common areas. Though fairly spacious, the lobby's odd mix of vibrantly colored chairs, traditional Thai paintings, and walls that alternate in color between pale blue, speckled blue, and plain cream marble, create a disorienting ambience. The spa is similarly mismatched, with bright purple ceiling tapestries that clash with traditional-looking wood decor. Worn red lounge chairs, curved white-and-gold fountains, and blue-tile planters with leafy trees surround the bright blue-tiled pool, which has views of the lush, green hills in the distance. The resort attracts a mix of middle-aged vacationers and younger party-focused travelers.
Location
On a busy main street in Patong, a five-minute walk from the beach
The resort is surrounded by mini-marts, massage parlors, and tattoo shops on the main street that runs through Patong. The beach is a five-minute walk away, and it's 20 minutes on foot to shopping and more nightlife options at Jungceylon. Phuket International Airport is about 40 minutes away by car, and the resort can arrange for a transfer on request.
Rooms
Simple rooms with natural light, free bottled water, and rainfall showers
All rooms at the Blue Ocean are air-conditioned and have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges with two free bottles of water restocked daily, electric kettles, and safes. Deluxe Rooms are decorated in an unfussy style, with white bedding and walls, light-wood headboards, and royal blue and purple accents. Many guest rooms have spacious balconies with white plastic furniture, some with pool views. Blue-tile bathrooms have large walk-in rainfall showers.
Features
Swimming pool, spa, restaurant with free buffet breakfast, and free Wi-Fi and parking
The pool has plenty of lounging space, as well as a covered poolside bar. The on-site Hoi Sang Bar and Restaurant has heavy wood tables and chairs set atop a covered grassy space and serves a free buffet breakfast daily along with some cooked-to-order items. A la carte international cuisine is served at lunch and dinner. Massages and body scrubs are available at the spa, and the fitness center has a few cardio and weight machines along with a set of free weights. There are a couple of meeting rooms with audiovisual equipment and Wi-Fi is free throughout, as is parking.
