A newer eight-story hotel in central Patong, only a five-minute walk to the beach, the Centra Ashlee Hotel is definitely a step up from the other hotels in the upper-mid-range category, thanks to its modern design and well-maintained appearance. The 110-rooms are large and have amenities like mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi; they also all have furnished balconies and huge bathtubs. There are two restaurants/bars on-site -- one on the ground floor and one on the roof, where there is also a pool, hot tub, gym, and two steam rooms -- not to mention terrific views. One major downside is almost constant noise from the nearby Hard Rock Cafe.
Scene
Popular in the main part of Patong
For those who like being in the heart of things, this hotel is a good choice. The overall vibe is urban, with lots of activity going on just outside the hotel and the Hard Rock Cafe across the street (just be aware that loud music from there can also be heard in the rooms). The hotel facade is that of a typical high-rise hotel, though there are interesting structural accents and quirky touches like bright orange and yellow balconies. The lobby is modern and welcoming, with circular, multi-mirrored check-in desks and large ottomans surrounded by wooden armchairs. Most of the guests here are tourists, so there's a constant flow of people coming in and out of the hotel on their way to check out the scene in Patong.
Location
Situated in central Patong, five minutes from the beach
Located on a busy street in downtown Patong, this hotel is actually very convenient for experiencing the area. It's an easy five-minute walk to the shores of Patong Beach and also only about 10 minutes to the nightlife and action on Bangla Street. Jungceylon Shopping Center and Simon Cabaret are also within 15 minutes. Immediately surrounding the hotel there are many other restaurants, including the Hard Rock Cafe and Hooters, markets, and shops. The Phuket International Airport is about a 45-minute drive from Patong.
Rooms
Huge rooms with balconies and modern amenities
Usually, at a value hotel, rooms are on the smaller side, but that's not the case at Centra Ashlee Hotel Patong. Rooms here are surprisingly big, making them an even better value for the money. Each is simply decorated in grays and neutrals with wood furniture. The beds themselves are rock hard -- not uncommon in Phuket -- and there are also full-sized sofa beds. Modern amenities like flat-screen TVs with cable channels, mini-fridges, and electric kettles (with coffee and tea fixings) are provided for guests' comfort. Free high-speed Wi-Fi is also available and the connection is strong, though you may find yourself having to sign back in frequently (and be aware that the password changes every few days for those booking longer stays). The bathrooms are also good-sized and have deep bathtubs with shower capabilities and contemporary-styled fixtures. The only mirrors in the entire rooms are in the bathrooms, however, which can make getting ready to go out tricky if you're sharing the space. All the rooms have furnished balconies with views of Patong, which is a nice perk. Ask for a higher floor if you wish to hear less city noise (but be aware you'll be waiting for the elevator longer since it's sometimes a little slow).
Features
Two on-site restaurants/bars, a rooftop pool, and occasional karaoke
Though there is no free breakfast, room service is an option at this hotel, and there are two on-site restaurants. The Mix Bistro -- which is on the ground floor -- has a comfortable yet contemporary feel and offers indoor and outdoor seating; happy hour happens daily there as well as all-day dining with classic Thai selections on the menu. The top of the hotel is where the action really seems to be, however. The Air Rooftop Bar & Lounge is a great place to hang out, with a cool vibe, city views, and even a billiards table. Drinks can be enjoyed there or guests can sunbathe by the pool and hot tub. There are plentiful sun loungers and patio chairs for guests to relax in; the pool itself is small and narrow but definitely makes good use of the space. Two steam rooms are available as well. Also on the roof, there is a compact but decently equipped fitness center with a selection of free weights, a few pulley machines, and some cardio equipment; most hotels in this area don't seem to have gyms so this is a perk. Karaoke is an occasional event. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
