Bottom Line

Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa is an upscale resort with 185 bungalow-style rooms and suites near a couple of shopping complexes. Midcentury modern decor dominates the hotel's interiors, and the vibe is hip and mellow. Rooms have big flat-screen TVs, minibars, outdoor spaces, and bathrobes; larger suites have separate living rooms. Upgrade options add access to cabanas or the relaxing Retreat Pool off the spa. Expect three outdoor pools, including a crowded main pool, pool bar and grill, modern American restaurant with room service, an apothecary spa, and 24-hour gym. A resort fee covers free Wi-Fi, a Tesla house car, and concierge service, and the hotel is pet-friendly. For a nearby spot with lower rates (and style), the Scottsdale Plaza Resort is a good option.

Scene

Midcentury modern resort with a young, boutique feel and beautiful design elements

It doesn't take long to notice that the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa is a design-focused hotel. With interiors and room names inspired by famous architects and designers, guests can expect top-notch style with a heavy dose of midcentury modern decor and furniture. Expect lots of pale-yellow retro wingback chairs, fun pops of patterns in rugs and benches, and tons of wood. The hotel incorporates its beautiful surroundings into the design and walls of floor-to-ceiling windows are just the beginning -- the gym has retractable walls that open up the space to fresh air and there are plenty of spacious lounge areas plus fire pits within the 36,000-square-foot exterior space. Although the main pool can get crowded and at times have loud music playing, the property largely has a hip, young, and mellow vibe.

Location

Walkable location within a 10-minute drive of downtown

Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa is located off a quiet side street from North Scottsdale Road. It's about an eight-minute drive to Downtown Scottsdale, and just a five-minute walk to the upscale shops at Hilton Village. There are a handful of chain restaurants, including a Starbucks, within a 10-minute walk from the hotel and many more options within a 10-minute driving radius. Guests get free Tesla car service within a five-mile radius. Scottsdale Airport is about a 15- to 20-minute drive north.

Rooms

Bungalow-style rooms with private outdoor space, coffeemakers, and minibars

The 185 bungalow-style rooms and suites have a design-heavy, midcentury modern look. Expect knotted carpet floors, tiled bathrooms, and gray-stained wood beam ceilings. Pale-yellow leather chairs, hanging light fixtures, and geometric modern artwork on the walls add hip touches. Bottom-level Eames rooms have either a king or two queen beds, plus quality amenities such as big flat-screen TVs, minibars, bathrobes and flip flops, kettles, and Keurig coffeemakers. These rooms each have an outdoor patio with a built-in sofa or table and chairs set. Eames Retreat Rooms also have access to the spa's Retreat Pool. All other bungalow rooms have king beds only and upgrades add more interior space, larger and/or more private outdoor space, and either access to the Retreat Pool or a private cabana off the back of the bungalow. Suites vary widely, but most have a separate living room and bedroom space and a stylish personal outdoor terrace. Cattle Track Suites feature two TVs, two terraces, and two full bathrooms, and have upgrades for cabana or Retreat Pool access. The Harper House is a studio-style suite with huge private terrace featuring an outdoor shower. For the most space available, upgrade to The Girard House or Albers House, which are both over over 1,600 square feet. The Albers House is a two-bedroom unit that has a patio with a private shower off the master bedroom and access to two private cabanas. The Girard House also has two bedrooms and a fireplace, plus guests receive access to two cabanas.

Features

Pools, apothecary spa, modern restaurant, and a resort fee

Andaz has three outdoor pools, with a main pool located at the center of the resort. The Turquoise pool feels a bit small and the crowded atmosphere with loud music isn't for everyone. Contemporary sun loungers that line the pool go quick and as the day wears on, it's hard to tell which loungers are taken and which have been abandoned. Eggshell sunbeds and private cabanas are also available, plus one upgraded red cabana with flashier decor and service perks. The pool area is serviced by the Turquoise Pool Bar, which has a menu of drinks and food. There are two other pools here, including a more relaxed Retreat Pool at the spa. The resort's modern Palo Verde Spa and Apothecary is a highlight of the resort. The treatment menu starts basic with simply labeled items such as organic facial and reflexology, and are then further customized to the specific needs of the individual using homemade blends of natural botanicals and oils. The spa's Retreat Pool area has a few loungers and a small fire pit. Next door, there's a 24-hour gym with Technogym equipment, free weights, exercise balls, and views of Camelback Mountain. Guests can also choose to roll up the sliding walls to turn the gym into an open-air space. Weft & Warp Art Bar + Kitchen serves up New American cuisine with a desert lean all day. It has an outdoor open patio dining space with a fire pit lounge area and handful of tables. Inside, mismatched modern furniture keeps it quirky, while a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows make for excellent views and natural lighting. Room service is also available during select hours. There is also over 10,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and over 36,000 square feet of variable outdoor space, both with catering available and state-of-the-art audio-visual rental options. A resort fee covers a Tesla house car that works for drop-offs only within a five-mile radius, property-wide Wi-Fi, GoPro rentals, parking, and a concierge services. Dogs and cats are welcome here for a high daily fee; dogs are limited at two per room with a 75-pound combined weight limit, though single dogs can weigh up to 50 pounds.
