Coron Westown Resort

Coron Westown Resort has the ambience and look of an urban hotel, with a clean, if bland, neutral-tone palette. Modern wicker and wood seating, tile floors, and generic wall art all come in tan or brown hues. The only area that feels like indicative of its resort moniker is the outdoor pool area, which houses three lovely pools with mosaic tiling, fountain features, and animal sculptures. Loungers here and seating at an adjacent bar terrace provide views of the sea and distant islands. The property's setting away from the town center means it's quiet, but travelers should expect to have to take transportation for anything outside of the property. An even mix of families, couples, and groups of friends stay here.

The hotel has a quiet setting a 12-minute drive from the center of Coron Town, where there are restaurants, bars, shops, markets, and a port. There's nothing of interest in the immediate vicinity and most travelers opt for affordable tricycles rides to get around the island. On the plus side, it's closer to the airport than the hotels in the center of town. Although the sea is only visible from certain spots, there’s beautiful greenery around the hotel and mountain views. Francisco B. Reyes Airport is a 23-minute drive away.

The 80 rooms are spread across four floors, which can be reached via elevators. Rooms are done in a mostly contemporary, if underwhelming, style consisting of beige floors, dark-wood furniture with marble tops, patterned curtains and bed runners in neutral hues, and generic artwork. Most units have outdoor spaces with tables and chairs, as well as pleasant views of the pool. Unfortunately, some wear and tear is visible. Standard amenities individually controlled air conditioners, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, open hanging space, mini-fridges, free bottled water, and kettles. Straightforward bathrooms have walk-in glass showers and free toiletries. Upgraded units add separate bathtubs and hairdryers. Family Rooms have two separate bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as dining tables. In-room Wi-Fi requires a fee.

The highlight here is the outdoor pool deck, which houses three rectangular swimming pools across two levels -- one of which is for kids. Fountain and cascading water features are lovely, and the deck is lined with wicker loungers. Only a handful of umbrellas are available, however. Additional leisure amenities include a small spa for massages and a glass-walled gym with just a few pieces of cardio equipment overlooking the pool. An outdoor playground is also on-site. For dining, the main restaurant serves substantial buffet breakfasts with local and international fare such as waffles and noodles, plus a la carte dishes for lunch and dinner. The lively bar offers light bites, cocktails, karaoke, live music at night, and TVs broadcasting sports, as well as a terrace overlooking the pool. Conference rooms and a 24-hour business center with computers and printers are available. Wi-Fi is only free in the lobby.
