Amarela Resort

This charming boutique resort is wreathed in lush greenery; its sloped grounds rife with trees, palms, flowering bushes, and bougainvillea hanging from balconies and draping corners of the building's turmeric-hued facade. The greenery makes its way indoors as well, with plenty of potted plants dotted about the inviting spaces where white walls are a crisp, clean backdrop to lots of woodwork -- from slatted ceilings to rustic doors to carved wall details and elegant furniture. Interiors are infused with local culture via details like art and antique furnishings. Large windows and partially open-air architecture soak the spaces in natural light -- plus the property's hilltop location affords it lovely views over the green surroundings and sea beyond. The lovely library is a particular pleasure, a beautiful sunlit space with cozy wooden floors, bookshelves lining the walls, and eye-catching paintings, all overlooking the lobby below. There's even an art gallery on-site that guests can peruse. Overall, this resort is a charmed spot that's full of character and suited for a relaxing, laid-back, and quiet holiday, while the dose of culture it provides, coupled with the admirable eco-forward practices it implements, sets it apart from others in the area.

The hotel is located on the southern shores of Panglao Island, which is southwest of the main island of Bohol. The boutique is located on a hill and surrounded by lush grounds, a scenic location that offers views of the sea. The beach is just a two-minute walk away. There are a couple of other hotels and resorts in the immediate area, but not many dining options, and it's a quiet and relaxed location. Popular area attractions include the Hinagdanan Cave, which can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. Tagbilaran Airport and the port, situated on neighboring Bohol Island, are around a half-hour drive from the hotel. 

Rooms carry on with the same style seen throughout the hotel, utilizing lots of wood in the floors, handsome furnishings including antique pieces with intricate carvings, and details like frames around paintings -- contrasted by cream-colored walls and white bedding. Colorful artwork adorns the walls and adds visual interest to the pleasant spaces. Thoughtful touches include books lining shelves and magazines on the nightstands. All rooms also have small, but lovely, balconies overlooking the greenery outside -- some with views of the sea beyond.Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs with DVD players, minibars, tea/coffee-making facilities, electronic safes, free bottled water, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi -- though guests have complained of a poor signal. Bathrooms feature cheery colorful walls and have both soaking tubs and separate rainfall showers. Hairdryers, bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries are supplied.There's also a private villa available with its own pool. The sunlit house has a terrace and outdoor seating space, including a charming garden surrounding the pool, set with loungers and a hammock.

The restaurant uses ingredients culled from it's own kitchen garden, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is included in the room rates. There's an inviting library with comfy seating and a collection of books, DVDs, and board games that guests are free to borrow. There's even a lovely art gallery filled with paintings and craftwork. Other amenities include a small boutique that sells local crafts and souvenirs, meeting and event space (including a charming wooden pavilion), and free Wi-Fi throughout.
