Bottom Line

The charming Alexander Inn is a mid-range, European-style boutique property in popular Center City Philadelphia. Furnished in an Art Deco style, this hotel boasts a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, colorful public spaces, and fine art in hallways and the lobby. It's a wonderful value given the central location, and the hotel provides free breakfast, free daily snacks, and free Wi-Fi, as well as a 24-hour fitness center and a 24-hour business center. The 48 rooms are clean and cozy, with large windows, but they do run small. While there is a fee for parking, it’s considerably less expensive than nearby options.

Scene

Cozy and welcoming, with several inviting spaces

The lobby at the Alexander Inn features a number of small inset areas for lounging and working and is decorated in deep, rich wood tones with pops of bright yellow, red, and white. A small reception desk is located right next to the main entrance, and the hallway that leads to the elevators features a number of cozy alcoves with armchairs, tables, and sofas. Travel and tour information is available and there's a large, bright breakfast room that also serves free snacks and beverages throughout the day.

Location

Convenient location in Center City, within walking distance of sights

Situated on a quiet, residential street in historic Center City, the Alexander Inn is a 10-minute walk from a number of restaurants, shops, and entertainment options, including the nearby theater district, the historic district, and several museums. Guests reach the Liberty Bell, Franklin Square, and the Independence National Historical Park in around 20 minutes on foot. There are a number of bus and subway stops nearby and taxis are plentiful in this area; the hotel also offers on-site parking in their indoor garage (for a fee). The Airport Line stops by the hotel and takes 50 minutes to reach the airport; a car or taxi takes 20 minutes without traffic.

Rooms

Small but stylish rooms with free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning

The Alexander Hotel offers quiet, cozy rooms at a modest price point. Rooms have large windows and are decorated in a simple, traditional style, with soft shades of blue and rose and bright artwork. All offer free Wi-Fi, in-room safes, premium movie channels, city maps, and air-conditioning. The smallest rooms available are Singles, which have one twin-size bed and are tiny but well-equipped. Standard Rooms are larger and have either a queen- or king-size bed and a small seating area. Guests who want the most space should book a corner Deluxe Room; these contain two double beds, seating areas, and desks, and have the best views of the surrounding area.

Features

A small boutique property with several thoughtful features

Although the Alexander Inn is a small, independently run boutique property, it still offers a number of useful features and convenient amenities that are more commonly found in larger properties. Room rates include a free daily buffet breakfast, and the hotel also serves free snacks and beverages in the breakfast room during the day. The reception desk, fitness center, and business center are all open 24 hours a day, and the lobby includes tour and travel information as well as maps of the area and the city. On-site parking is available for a fee, and rates -- like those of the rooms themselves -- are competitive for the area.
