Hotel La Cabana Machu Picchu

Hotel La Cabana Machu Picchu is a slightly whimsical hotel with a rustic vibe and Incan-inspired decor that's immediately evident in the tile stone colored floors with dark wooden furniture, cream colored accents, and antique radios on wooden shelves. A cluster of brown wood sofas and chairs are set around a coffee table. There are lovely paintings of Peruvian landscapes or Incan mythological subjects. Many of the rooms are set up around an interior courtyard, With that said, the hotel lacks any elevators so it might be difficult for those with mobility issues to get to upper level floors. Most of the guests are international couples, on activity-oriented vacations, though families stay here too. 

In terms of other hotels in the area, Hotel La Cabana Machu Picchu is a bit far from the central point of the town: the train station. The hotel is a six-minute walk uphill from the station, which isn’t too bad unless you’re hauling luggage or little kids. The closest bus stop is a four-minute walk away. Aguas Calientes is a walkable city, and though the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, there are dining options surrounding the property and within 10 minutes of the property. It’s a 10-minute walk to the hot springs that the city is named after. 

Rooms at Hotel La Cabana Machu Picchu feature a rustic and romantic decor with tiled floors with pale pink stone designs, exposed ceiling beams, and dark wood furniture such as wood slated headboards or handmade chairs with brown cushions. There’s a mostly white color palette with the walls and bedding, but thanks to bright accents on pillows, bed runners, and small woven dolls placed on beds, there’s a definite traditional Incan vibe to the rooms. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, free Wi-Fi, bottled water, and small cupboards for storage. There’s no air-conditioning, coffeemakers or kettles, and some guests note mosquito problems or bothersome noise due to thin walls. Some rooms have furnished balconies or terraces that look upon central courtyards. Bathrooms look a bit dated with white and maroon tiles. They’re equipped with showers, toiletries, and hairdryers. 

Most hotels in Aguas Calientes don’t have large amenities like pools or spas, and Hotel La Cabana Machu Picchu is no exception. For that matter, the hotel closed their restaurant and turned it into a breakfast room that serves a free daily breakfast of hot and cold items. There’s also a small lobby bar with a variety of drinks. Wi-Fi is free throughout, though it’s not always fast and sometimes spotty on certain floors.
