Bottom Line

A slice of Perth history comes to life at the upscale Best Western Premier Terrace Hotel. This beautiful 15-room property was originally built in 1895, and after decades of repurposing and renovations, is today an Art Deco-inspired gem in the city’s business district. Guest rooms are spacious and chic with Apple TV and other high-tech features, and bathrooms have gorgeous black marble and soaking tubs. Given its proximity to the convention center and the recreational spaces near Swan River -- both are within a 15-minute walk -- the hotel is conveniently located for both business and leisure travelers. Public transportation is within a five-minute walk of the hotel, and the street is lined with plenty of restaurants and shops. Travelers might want to also consider the Fraser Suites Perth -- its rates are slightly higher, but with a sauna, it outdoes the Terrace Hotel when it comes to amenities.

Scene

Historic property in the West Perth Central Business District

As part of the Perth landscape since 1892, the Best Western Premier Terrace Hotel has a rich history. The building was originally constructed by the Anglican Church as Bishop’s Grove. The architecture was popular along St. George’s Terrace at the time, and is aptly called terrace style. After decades of renovations and repurposing, the building escaped demolition when investors rehabilitated the property. It was later opened as the Terrace Hotel in 2011. The decor is a blend of Art Deco and Style Moderne, with opulent chandeliers, rich textures, and lovely artwork. Thoughtful touches, like the finished walls that creatively give way to exposed brick in the hallways, stylishly blend historic details with modern flair.

Location

Close to public transportation, the convention center, and recreational venues

The hotel sits on the West End of Perth’s Central Business District. Surrounded by busy residents and skyscrapers, guests find themselves right in the middle of a bustling metropolitan area. Public transportation is about a five-minute walk from the hotel in either direction on Saint George’s Terrace. The Perth Convention and Exhibition Center is less than 10 minutes away on foot. The hotel is near Swan River, so the Bell Tower (home of the Swan Bells) and Supreme Court Gardens are about a five-minute drive. Right in the city center, the Best Western Premier Terrace is surrounded by a number of restaurants and shops. Perth Airport is just 16 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Chic, Edwardian furnishings and opulent ensuite baths

Guest rooms are spacious and stylishly furnished with a nod to Edwardian- and Victorian-era design, right down to the novelty light switches on the wall. Rich furnishings like roll-arm settees, four-poster beds, and painted wardrobes set the scene. Beds have Egyptian cotton sheets and goose down pillows, and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs have Apple TV, along with surround-sound systems and plug-and-play connectivity panels -- rooms also come with minibars and yoga mats. While the overall setting of the rooms is inviting, the rooms' Nero Imperial black marble bathrooms are showstoppers, with freestanding soaking tubs and separate rainfall showers. Luxury bath products and spa robes are also on hand. Suites have separate living and bedrooms, with TVs and fireplaces in both rooms.

Features

Fine dining with a global wine selection and private tasting rooms

The Best Western Premier Terrace Hotel restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a few snacking options throughout the day. There's an extensive wine list available with choices from Spain, Italy, France, and the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The picturesque wraparound terrace has plenty of alfresco seating, and additional tables along the sidewalk. During busy times, the foot traffic between the tables and the restaurant can get heavy. Private dinners and events can be held in the Sommelier’s Tasting Room, an intimate setting that is tucked away from the public on the other side of an impressive wine vault. The wine vault itself is worth seeing; it’s a climate-controlled corridor with more than 3,000 wines from around the world. The rear bar, which offers beer, wine, and spirits as well as a small bar menu, is chic and relaxed. Valet parking is available but not at all times of the day, and a fee applies. The reception desk operates 24 hours a day, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
