Some wear and tear visible, particularly in one gym
The 216-room Areca Lodge is a solid mid-range option, located a six-minute walk to the beach and 18-minute walk to Walking Street. Contemporary rooms are attractive, and equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Bathrooms with shower/tub combos look a little dated, however. There are two lovely pools to choose from, both with built-in whirlpools. A small but lovely spa offers Thai massages, a sauna, and whirlpool, plus there are two gyms. The two on-site restaurants are well-reviewed, and guests particularly enjoy the free breakfast spread. Aside from the pools, there's little to occupy kids on-site. Travelers looking to be closer to the beach may prefer the Amari Garden Hotel, though rates are higher.
Scene
Contemporary hotel with lovely pools in a tropical setting
The Areca Lodge has three six-story buildings: The Areca, Corona, and Evergreen Towers, which were built in that order. Each has its own lobby with distinctive feel; the more classic Areca reception area has an elephant frieze and wooden seating with striped cushions, while the Evergreen Tower has a sleek tiled lobby with neutral-tone, C-shaded couches and floor lanterns. The latter is toward the back of the complex and considered to be the quietest. The grounds around the hotel are minimal but have a nice display of tropical plants and trees, as well as the two lovely pool areas. The laid-back hotel doesn't have a ton for kids, so guests tend to be couples, though families are still present.
Location
Centrally located in Pattaya, about a six-minute walk from the beach
The Areca Lodge has a central location, about a six-minute walk to Pattaya Beach and close to bars, restaurants, and shops. The famous red-light district Walking Street is just under a 20-minute walk away, while the Central Festival Pattaya shopping mall is about a 10-minute walk. The closest airport is in Bangkok, which is about 90 minutes away by car. The hotel offers free parking.
Rooms
Spacious, air-conditioned rooms with small patios
The Areca Lodge has 216 air-conditioned rooms with varying contemporary and attractive decor. The design consists of dark-wood floors, wood furniture, and white walls with occasional accent walls in red or blue. Some have attractive wood detailing, richly hued bed runners, and tree wall murals. All rooms have furnished outdoor spaces, but since air conditioners sit on the balconies, space can be minimized; the upper floors have larger patios. Some rooms have pleasant pool views, while others overlook a parking lot or unattractive buildings. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, safes, and free Wi-Fi, although it might be hit-or-miss. The hotel will provide two free bottles of water each day. Bathrooms are a little dated but functional, with shower/tub combos and a few toiletries. Upgraded rooms have more modern bathrooms and add bathrobes and wet bars. Some rooms are showing minor wear and tear.
Features
Two lovely pools and multiple dining options
The Areca Lodge has several on-site amenities to keep guests busy, though not much for kids. There are two lovely pools, each with connected whirlpools that can double as shallow areas for kids. Both are surrounded by loungers. The on-site spa is small but nicely decorated, and it offers a sauna and massage rooms. A hair salon and two gyms are also available -- one is more up-to-date than the other, which is showing lots of wear. There are two restaurants, both of which receive positive reviews on the selection and quality of food. All rates include a quality breakfast buffet with cooked-to-order eggs. particularly the omelets. A cafe and two bars are also available.
