A short drive from Park City, this three pearl Holiday Inn Express offers good, basic accommodations with a few nice extras, including a pool, hot tub, and sauna. Prices are reasonable, though they may spike in peak season. Rooms are plain and comfortable, and some have kitchenettes. The hotel is situated within walking distance of a mall that has plenty of shops, restaurants, and a supermarket, but getting to the slopes requires a 10-minute drive or ride on the hotel's free shuttle.
Scene
Standard chain hotel building with a few touches of woodsy flair
The Holiday Inn Express is spread out over a collection of three-story buildings sided with faux stone and wood panel. A small, cozy lobby looks surprisingly like a crowded, but bland, living room, with robins-egg-blue couches, a few overstuffed chairs, and a fireplace. Hallways and patches of the lobby are carpeted in a busy patterned rug. Guests here tend to be skiers and snowboarders wanting relatively close access to the slopes.
Location
Outside of Park City, right off the freeway and within walking distance of a mall
The property does not offer direct slope access, though it does provide a free shuttle to the Canyon Resorts ski area, which is under 10 minutes away by car. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from Park City. There is a good selection of shops and restaurants in the nearby mall -- including a Whole Foods -- and there's a post office and a number of fast-food restaurants within a short walk away. The hotel is a one-minute drive from the nearest I-80 on-ramp, and the Salt Lake City Airport is a straight shot on the interstate (30 minutes total travel time).
Rooms
Plain rooms with granite bathroom vanities, some with kitchenettes and steam showers
The rooms here are plain but comfortable. White walls, lacquer wood furniture, brown carpet, and orange throw blankets on white comforters constitute the majority of the decor, along with the occasional piece of mass-produced art. All rooms have small flat-screen TVs, irons and ironing boards, coffeemakers, and hairdryers. Bathrooms are standard affairs with granite vanities and shower/tub combos. Larger rooms have a slightly separated living area with sofas and two extra chairs, and some rooms have kitchenettes with microwaves and fridges. Others have steam showers for two in the bathroom, or a whirlpool hot tub next to the sleeping area as well as a regular bathtub. Pet-friendly rooms are available with prior arrangement.
Features
Coin-operated laundry, pool, hot tub, cramped fitness center, Internet corner, and free breakfast
The Holiday Inn features a small indoor pool with an adjacent whirlpool hot tub and a tiny, cramped fitness center with a handful of exercise machines jammed into a carpeted room. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and guests without laptops can use the Internet corner in the lobby, which has a computer and a printer. A daily buffet breakfast of hot and cold American breakfast item is served free of charge in a bland carpeted area with tables and chairs. The hotel also has coin-operated laundry on-site and parking is free.
