Bottom Line

The pet-friendly, Villa Eugenie is a mid-range hotel with a Belle Epoque style in an unremarkable corner of the Batignolles District. Forty-one rooms offer charming toile wallpaper, minibars, flat-screen
TVs, and some have nice city views.
However, some rooms pick up street noise and while some furniture may be deliberately antiqued, rooms show a good deal of wear and tear. Wi-Fi is free and there's 24-hour room service, though most major sights in Paris will require a metro ride from here, or walks over 20-minutes. Guests may also want to consider the Hotel Romance Malesherbes, which has comparable rooms and far cheaper rates in the same area of town.

Scene

A traditionally Parisian hotel with 19th century accents throughout

Nineteenth century Parisian architectural details and period furnishings adorn the hotel, with green floral patterned carpet throughout the common areas. Marble accents look elegant against fuchsia ceilings and red-striped furniture in the hotel's lobby. A vintage reception desk with carvings and gold molding adds to
the classic feel. Large windows provide natural light in the cozy, colorful breakfast
room, filled with antique wood chairs topped with red cushions. Brass antique light fixtures pop against vibrant red wallpapered walls, crown molding,
and decorative columns -- in fact the space is almost over the top from a design perspective. Original stone walls, blue velvet tablecloths, and recessed
lighting decorate the meeting room. Families with older kids do book rooms here, but the majority of guests are couples on holiday.

Location

Residential area in the Batignolles District -- not much nearby

The Villa Eugenie is on a
busy street in a residential area with the quaint Square des Batignolles a five-minute walk away. Batignolles is one of the less touristy areas of the city, and there are markets and cafes scattered throughout the neighborhood, though the Brochant Metro, restaurants,
and shops are all at least a 10-minute walk from the front doors of the hotel. Place de Clichy and English-style Parc Monceau are 15 minutes away on foot and the Arc de Triomphe,
Galeries Lafayette, Paris Opera, and Place de la Concorde are a 10-minute drive away. The Louvre and
Eiffel Tower are 15 minutes away by taxi or car, while both take around 40 minutes to reach by metro. Plan on a 30-minute drive to the Charles de Gaulle or Orly Airports depending on traffic. Parking is not available at the hotel, though taxis are plentiful and Paris is a walkable city.

Rooms

Classic and antique, with toile wallpaper -- some with street views

Walnut furniture with antique silhouettes and a
typical Parisian Belle Epoque style decorate the rooms, which have red carpet and arts-and-crafts style yellow bedspreads. Toile wallpaper and matching drapes add a bit of elegance to the rooms, as do crown molding, damask headboards, and carved wooden artwork. However, there is a lot of wear and tear throughout, and though it may be intentional on some of the furniture, paint on the doors and molding is chipped and scratched, and the effects combine to make rooms look quite worn. Additionally, some rooms pick up loud street noise. Flat-screen TVs sit on wood desks while minibars are hidden
underneath, and air-conditioning is provided. A few rooms have decent street views, and there are safes in each room, but no coffeemakers. Bathrooms are basic, with light tile throughout and gray
marble countertops on wood vanities. They also feature makeup mirrors, toiletries, and heated towel racks, and most bathrooms have tile shower/tub combos, though others just have showers.

Features

Free breakfast and Wi-Fi

Features at Villa Eugenie are limited, especially given the rates for rooms here. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day and concierge services are available. Breakfast is not included in the room rate and can be expensive, and there's 24-hour room service, but no full restaurant or bar. A boardroom-style meeting room is convenient for business travelers, as is the free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. There is a small library available on site and pets are welcome without fees. Hotel staff can arrange airport transportation for a fee.
