Bottom Line

Part budget hotel and part hostel, the Smart Place Paris offers a youthful vibe and exceptional prices for a property in Paris' 10th Arrondissement, a four-minute walk from the Gare du Nord and within a 20-minute walk of Montmartre. Rooms are fairly clean, but small and built for function, ranging from private doubles to 10-person dorms with bunk beds and en-suite bathrooms. The industrial-style lobby includes a small bar, a kitchen available for guest use, long wood tables, books, games, and a foosball table. Smart Place has free Wi-Fi, but doesn't offer breakfast. Scene

Friendly and youthful hostel-vibe with hip industrial decor

Situated in a five-story white building with classic Parisian architectural detailing like molded accents, the Smart Place Paris blends in seamlessly with the other buildings on the block. The store-front-style bottom floor welcomes guests with a bright red doorway and colorfully accented windows. The lobby offers a friendly, youthful vibe with rock 'n' roll or electro-rock music playing in the background and a bare, industrial-style that features exposed concrete walls, red-painted pipes, colorful accents, and a wood floor. Communal wooden tables offer guests a chance to hangout while books, musical instruments, and games encourage social interaction. A small lobby bar serves drinks and a kitchen offers guests the option to cook their own meals. With a mixture of budget private rooms and hostel-style dorm rooms, this property attracts a youthful crowd, including tourists, apartment hunters, and groups traveling together.

Rooms

Clean and functional private rooms and dorm rooms, but few extra amenities

Part budget hotel and part hostel, the Smart Place Paris offers dorm rooms with three to 10 beds and private Twin, Double, Triple, and Quadruple Rooms. Each dorm or private room includes an en-suite bathroom. While fairly clean and well-kept, this is a budget property, and guests should expect only the basics. Rooms are small, and those for more than two people have bunk beds. Rooms feature wood floors and unadorned walls painted gray, white, or red. Some rooms include work desks, while private rooms may include reading lamps, night tables, flat-screen TVs, safes, or balconies with views of Paris rooftops. Sheets and bedding are included in the rate. Some guests note that the beds are creaky and the pillows are flat. Bathrooms are tiny and fully tiled in white and blue with sinks, toilets, and tiny, standing showers or shower/tub combos. Towels are not included in the room rate, but are available to rent for a modest extra fee. Irons and hairdryers are available from reception. Light sleepers should consider interior-facing rooms, as rooms facing the street can be somewhat noisy. There's no air-conditioning in any of the rooms. Housekeeping services are provided daily.
