The upscale Plaza Tour
Eiffel is a boutique property with designer touches that sits at the crossroads of two quiet streets in Paris' 16th arrondissement. While the surroundings are mostly
residential, the Museum of Modern Art and the Eiffel Tower are about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Rooms, which have large windows, are smart and stylish but somewhat small -- suites have partial Eiffel
Tower views. For a chic and friendly hotel with a fitness center and designer flair, the Plaza Tour Eiffel is a solid pick, but travelers might want to compare rates with the nearby Radisson Blu Le Metropolitan, which has a pool and a spa.
Scene
Friendly boutique hotel with a chic vibe and designer touches
The Plaza Tour Eiffel Hotel was built in 1988, and the modern though weather-worn facade -- with
its mirrored windows and understated architecture -- has started to show its
age. Stepping through the hotel's revolving glass door, however, guests will find an immaculately presented lobby with neatly arranged newspapers, smart cross-hatch
carpeting, and a polished, monochrome marble reception desk that extends to a
small bar. Designer touches, including soft lighting from Philippe Starck lamps and leather Mies Van Der Rohe Barcelona chairs, add to the chic, urbane ambience, while warm orange and red fabrics coordinate with modern artworks and
plump striped armchairs. The owner of the hotel also manages it and hand-picked the furniture and decorative objects, including the
many designer pieces throughout the hotel. The vibe is friendly, exuding the
intimate atmosphere of a boutique property that attracts mostly vacationing
couples and families.
Location
Located in the residential 16th arrondissement, within a 10-minute walk of the Jardins du Trocadero
The hotel is
located at the junction of two quiet cobblestone streets -- opposite a
typical Parisian Bar-Tabac -- in the upscale 16th
arrondissement. While located within a mostly residential neighborhood, the hotel is within a 10-minute walk of the Jardins du Trocadero, and a 15-minute to the Eiffel Tower on the opposite side of
the Seine. The Museum of Modern Art is
also about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Trocadero is the closest metro station (about a five-minute walk), while the metro at Rue de La
Pompe is a seven-minute walk. Both Orly and Charles de Gaulle international
airports are a 30- to 40-minute drive, depending on traffic.
Rooms
Smart and stylish rooms -- some with partial Eiffel Tower views
The Plaza Tour Eiffel has 41
rooms, which include Superior and Deluxe Rooms, and two Junior Suites. Decor is smart and understated, with good-quality carpets and chocolate-leather accents.
Bathrooms are bright and well-maintained with floor-to-ceiling tiling, Antonio Citterio designer
fittings, and showers
over bathtubs; hairdryers are wall-mounted and toiletries are from The White
Company. In-room amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and robes and
slippers, though there are no tea- and coffee-making facilities, and only Junior Suites have minibars. Suites are on the sixth floor, and have small balconies
overlooking Rue Grueze and the top of the Eiffel Tower. Superior Rooms are generally small, while Deluxe Rooms offer a little more space.
Features
Breakfast served either buffet style or in guests' rooms
A buffet
breakfast is served in the hotel's spacious and contemporary dining room, which
opens to a small courtyard. While the quality is good and guests can take it in their rooms, there's not a huge selection and it's not included in the standard room rate. A fitness room is open 24/7 and finished in smart wooden paneling with up-to-date
exercise machines. There's also a small
lobby bar and free -- though not particularly fast -- Wi-Fi throughout.
