A charming boutique hotel in the chic 2nd Arrondissement, Lyric Hotel Paris is an upscale choice within a short walk
of the Louvre, Opera Garnier, and the Galeries Lafayette department store. Unlike many Paris properties, the Lyric
offers an indoor pool in addition to a sauna, steam room, and small fitness center. The 47 bright and stylish rooms feature flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, and pay homage to ballet and
opera in their colorful decor. The Lyric can be pricey, but given its
central location and high quality it's a solid bet when compared to nearby four-pearl properties, like Hotel Lumen Paris Louvre, which has a chic restaurant and bar, but lacks a pool.
Scene
Colorful boutique hotel ideal for tourists
The Lyric Hotel is a colorful boutique hotel that makes ample use of pink, violet, and orange throughout the property in stylish ways. It's visually
pleasing without being overly trendy. Guests enter a playful lobby set with contemporary, bright furniture that features colorful globe hanging
lamps and gray tile floors. The lobby also has a shop selling
gourmet macarons and chocolates. Guests tend to gather in the lobby or in the
breakfast room, which also has colorful seating and black-and-white photos. The
indoor pool is a welcome and vibrant surprise, featuring a colorful wall photo of a
woman swimming underwater, plus ample natural light coming through the glass
ceiling. It's a fine place to relax given there's no bar and it doesn't have a party vibe. The hotel is especially suited to tourists, primarily couples, though a few families and business travelers pass through as well.
Location
Central 2nd Arrondissment -- walk to the Louvre in less than 15 minutes
The Lyric Hotel is located on a quiet street in the chic 2nd
arrondissement on Paris' Right Bank. The Palais Brongniart event center is two
blocks east, the Quatre-Septembre metro station is a two-minute walk northwest,
and the Opera metro station and Palais Garnier Opera House are a five-minute
walk northwest of the hotel. The Galeries Lafayette and Printemps
shopping centers are an eight-minute walk from the hotel, while Place
Vendome is an eight-minute walk southwest, and Rue de Rivoli shopping and the
Jardin des Tuileries are an eight-minute walk south. The Louvre is a 12-minute walk south while it takes 15 minutes to reach the iconic Champs-Elysees on foot. Gare
Saint Lazare train station is a five-minute drive, or 15-minute walk, northwest
of the hotel. A cab to Charles de Gaulle Airport can take up to an hour depending on traffic, while Orly can be reached in 30 to 40 minutes, though that also depends on traffic. Both airports can be reached using public transportation in around an hour.
Rooms
Sharp, contemporary rooms with opera and ballet themes
The Lyric Hotel has 47 non-smoking that come in Double Business, Double Executive, Superior
Double, and Junior Suite categories. Some rooms are small, at 160 to 200 square
feet, but not particularly small by Paris hotel standards. The contemporary
boutique rooms are individually named for famous operas and ballets, in keeping
with the hotel's name and location near the Opera Garnier. Decor
includes stylish elements like light wood laminate floors with black area rugs, wall mirrors, black-and-white photos
with classical music and dance subjects, and mesh curtains with figures of
ballerinas etched on them. Some rooms have a chandelier and a ceiling that mimics the famous Chagall painting decorating the Opera Garnier ceiling. Rooms have a
largely beige, grey, and white color palette with infusions of hot pink,
orange, violet, and light blue, and are clean and
quiet despite the hotel's central location. All rooms come with air-conditioning, minibars, safes, coffee/tea makers, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen
TVs. Junior Suites have sofa beds. Stylish gray-tile bathrooms are clean and adequately lighted,
but some bathrooms are a little small and have limited counter space, while other bathrooms have walk-in showers and no bathtubs. Toiletries are provided.
Features
Sauna, steam room, and eight-meter indoor pool with glass ceiling
The Lyric Hotel has many outstanding features for a hotel its size. In fact, unlike many Paris hotels, this one has an indoor
pool. While it's a little small for a genuine lap swim, at eight meters (26 feet) it's
good for a refreshing splash, and the glass ceiling lets
in plenty of natural light. The hotel also features a wood sauna and
tiled steam room, both in good condition. A small fitness room is equipped for a simple cardio workout and spa services are available. The Lyric does not have a proper restaurant for lunch and dinner, though room service is available from an off-site caterer. An ample breakfast buffet is served everyday (for a fee), and features scrambled
eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, croissants, yogurts, freshly cut fruit salad, coffee,
and juice. The hotel also has a small computer center with a piano, free Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour front desk that can provide concierge services. The hotel does not have on-site parking, and
nearby garage parking is a bit expensive. The hotel's lobby is home to a small shop selling gourmet chocolates and macarons as well.
