The 17-room boutique Le Fabe Hotel is modern and stylish, with bold decor and quirky touches that reflect the boho, arty Montparnasse neighborhood outside its doors. Although not located in the city center, there are plenty of interesting things to do and see around the hotel, including many cafes and restaurants that are great for people watching -- and are easy on the budget. The bright, modern rooms have individual flower-motif decor and names, as well as flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and minibars. This memorable property attracts both leisure and business travelers visiting Paris. The nearby Atelier Montparnasse might make a good hotel alternative; it has similar rates, but no sauna.
Scene
Bold design and Zen attitude, but still ultimately Parisian
The bold and colorful Le Fabe Hotel's artistic Left Bank quirkiness in evidence from the chartreuse walls in the lobby to the wall-size flower photo print and red sectional sofa in the business center. Despite this ultra modern vibe, Le Fabe manages to remain warm and welcoming. The orchids, lotuses, cherry blossoms, and other flowers pictured in saturated, closeup photographs on walls and furniture -- coupled with the dark wood and clean lines of the front desk and public areas -- give an urban-Zen-garden vibe.
Location
Quiet Montparnasse streets, inexpensive cafes, and the metro to anywhere
Le Fabe Hotel is outside of Paris's tourist zone, sitting on a quiet street that gets little traffic. The area is dotted with lovely, inexpensive cafes, restaurants, and shops, and visitors who like to walk will find plenty of attractions nearby. The metro is a three-minute walk from the front door, and guests can be anywhere in the city within thirty minutes, making this a good spot for business travelers and tourists alike. Gare Montparnasse is also close, which makes day trips to Versailles and other outlying areas a breeze.
Rooms
Unique decor, modern bathrooms, and rooms with creative names
Rooms at Le Fabe Hotel are individual and creative; each has a unique name -- Charm, Cozy, Plaisir, to list a few. The names express the spirit of this joyful hotel. Enlarged floral photographs take up the most of the wall behind the beds; other walls are mint or mossy green. The bold color schemes, bright photo prints, and uniqueness of each room make the Le Fabe feel far more expensive than its rates. The bright and spotless rooms have satellite flat-screen TVs mounted on the walls, coffee- and tea-making facilities, minibars, and comfortable beds -- a luxury in Paris). Modern Zen-like bathrooms have walk-in showers and wide sink vanities.
Features
Full breakfast, private sauna, and quirky meeting rooms
Guests often receive a free welcome drink upon their arrival at Le Fabe Hotel. There is also a full breakfast each morning, but it comes at an extra cost. One fun perk is the private sauna, which can be reserved ahead of time, free of charge. Business-friendly features include on-site parking (for a surcharge) and a computer that is available for guest use. Meeting rooms are modern, colorful, and quirky -- albeit small. They offer much more character than the cookie-cutter event space found at most larger hotels. Everything about the Le Fabe says City of Light, setting of La Boheme -- even the business facilities.
