The four-pearl La Villa Maillot is located in the 16th Arrondissement in northwestern Paris, close to the Porte Maillot metro station. A few major attractions like the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées are within walking distance, but most top sights require jumping on the metro. The 42 guest rooms are outfitted with modern amenities like Nespresso machines and 46-inch flat-screen TVs, and some have soaking tubs. Features include a full-service spa with a Turkish bath and sauna, bright conservatory-style meeting space, and a stylish lounge bar. There's also a fitness room, but it's cramped, with only a few pieces of equipment. Travelers who don't need the spa or the meeting facilities should check out Le 10 Bis Hotel nearby, which often has cheaper rates for comparable rooms.
Scene
Upscale hotel with a relaxing cocktail lounge
La Villa Maillot is an upscale hotel that caters to business travelers, but there's also a mix of leisure guests. The lobby sets a tone that's far more dramatic than the rest of the hotel, with dim lighting and glam decor. A lipstick-red sofa sits in the middle of the room as a focal point, with a glass chandelier sparking above and hidden accent lights below. The reception desk fuses an antique table with glowing panels, accompanied by a transparent glass lamp, and there's a mirrored pedestal with a bronze statue that's split open like a shell, revealing a glittery orange core. The main common area is more subdued, with a skylight and glass gas fireplace, which serves as a breakfast room, salon for afternoon tea, and lounge for evening cocktails.
Location
In the sophisticated Embassy Quarter and near public transit, but far from top sights
The hotel is situated on a busy avenue in the Embassy Quarter, about a five-minute walk from the Porte Maillot metro station and roughly a 10-minute walk from the northeast corner of the Bois de Boulogne. The tremendous park is known as the "lungs of Paris," and it's a lovely setting for a picnic or more active pursuits. There are also several restaurants and cafes near the hotel, and the Palais des Congrès exhibition hall is a seven-minute walk. Although travelers can reach the Arc de Triomphe and the western end of the Champs-Élysées in about 15 minutes on foot, the hotel is far from the majority of Paris's top sights. By metro, plan on 25 minutes to the Louvre Museum, 30 minutes to Luxembourg Gardens, and 38 minutes to Sacré-Coeur. Charles de Gaulle Airport is about a 30-minute drive northeast, and Orly Airport to the south is a few minutes closer.
Rooms
Colorful modern decor, 46-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, and Nespresso machines
The hotel's 42 spacious, contemporary guest rooms are done in cool gray and taupe tones, accented by bright pops of fuchsia, green, or blue. Standard rooms have double or two twin beds, and seating areas with tables, stools, and retro chairs. Upgraded rooms feature velvet-tufted sofas, and the option for king-size beds. Free Wi-Fi is standard along with 46-inch flat-screen TVs, plus media centers with Wii and PlayStation. All come nicely equipped with Nespresso machines, minibars, kettles, safes, and a map of the public running paths in the nearby Bois de Boulogne park. Two suites have living rooms with sofa beds, and one adds a private terrace. Bathrooms vary, with a generous stock of bottled Sisley Paris toiletries, heated towel racks, and either walk-in showers, shower/tub combos, or both; upgraded rooms have bathtubs with built-in TVs. View are either of the street or quiet courtyard.
Features
Full spa with a Turkish bath, meeting room, and cocktail lounge
The hotel's main common area is a cocktail lounge with a skylight and a gas fireplace that doubles as a breakfast room, where a spread that includes croissants, eggs, fresh fruit, and granola is served for an extra charge. Tea is offered there in the afternoon, and the space becomes a bar in the evening. The hotel doesn't have a full restaurant, but the full-service spa is highlight, with a sauna, relaxation room, and a Turkish bath. There's also a fitness room with a pair of cardio machines and some yoga mats, but it's narrow and cramped. The conservatory-style meeting room can host up to 45 people, and it gets plenty of natural light from a skylight and banks of windows facing a Japanese-style garden. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
