Bottom Line

Hotel Monterosa is a small 36-room hotel, with its larger sister property, Joyce Hotel, just across the street. It is located on a small street in the 9th arrondissement that is lined with a number of restaurants and cafes. Breakfast is available for a fee in the bright, modern cafe area on the ground floor. The rooms are pleasantly decorated with red accents, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, and electric kettles, though space is on the small side.  An alternative is Hotel Villathena, which offers similar pricing and is just a few blocks away.

Scene

A small hotel with contemporary decor

Parisian hotels are known for small spaces, and Hotel Monterosa is no exception. On entering the hotel, guests will find the check-in area to the side in a small but naturally lit room. Like the check-in area, the dining area is bright but feels more welcoming with modern red chairs and a chic cafe atmosphere. Up from the public space and into the private quarters, a spiral stairway transforms the atmosphere to one that's more cozy and intimate with the help of black wallpaper sporting golden sun bursts. Overall this hotel has a relaxed, contemporary vibe.

Location

Closer to shopping boutiques and department stores than to other major tourist sights

The hotel is on a small street of the 9th arrondissement, in a neighborhood near the Paris shopping scene. The large department stores of Boulevard Haussman, including the flagship stores of Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, are 15 minutes away. Ten minutes south is the Opéra-Garnier, which still hosts celebrated performances. Four blocks up is the Pigalle station where guests can catch either the M2 or M12 lines to the surrounding arrondissements. Directly across the Seine is the 6th arrondissement, from where travelers can walk easily to the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars. For anyone coming from out of town, Paris Orly Airport is just a 30-minute car ride away.

Rooms

Small, modern rooms with no built-in closet space

Rooms are simple and functional, but also on the small side. Decor is pleasant, with bold orange bedding accents on top of crisp white sheets. There are wall-mounted flat-screen TVs and closet space is made up of exterior clothes racks (no built-in closet space here). Rooms have free Wi-Fi, safes, electric kettles, iPod docks, and air-conditioning. Bathrooms are modern and simple with shower/tub combos.

Features

Limited amentities with only a breakfast room

This small hotel has a breakfast room that offers a quality buffet (for a fee) in a bright, modern space, and a nice area to read. Beside the dining area, the hotel has no meeting room or fitness area.
