Hotel La Comtesse is an upscale boutique property located in the 7th Arrondissement set in a typical Parisian building that's within sight of the iconic Eiffel Tower. A head-to-toe renovation in 2016 transformed interiors to channel the spirit of an 18th-century literary salon with chic, contemporary design. But it's the views that steal the show, with the Eiffel Tower visible from each one of the 40 guest rooms. They also have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and electric kettles with free coffee and tea, and upgraded rooms add Bluetooth speakers and espresso machines. A cafe-cum-tea room serves an excellent breakfast, plus there's small wellness center in the basement with a sauna and modern gym equipment. Rates aren't cheap, but the package all feels suitably upmarket. Travelers looking for a more value-oriented option with Eiffel Tower views can compare prices with the Derby Eiffel Hotel just around the corner.
Scene
Contemporary chic meets 18th-century parlor in elegantly updated boutique hotel
Occupying the corner wedge of an attractive Haussmannian building, with an intricate wrought iron and carved limestone facade, Hotel La Comtesse is unmistakably Parisian. Formerly the Hotel Splendid, the property re-opened in summer 2016 after a six-month and 4-million-euro renovation that remodeled interiors across its six floors and 40 guest rooms. And stepping inside, the makeover doesn’t fail to impress. Inspiration is largely drawn from the aesthetics of an 18th-century aristocratic salon, with Louis XVI-style antiques and ceiling murals set against a more cool and contemporary backdrop of charcoal gray, modern artworks, and a funky geometric front desk. Splashes of red and gold add to the lavish-yet-tasteful feel. The update also expanded the hotel's ground floor to include a bright tea room that overlooks the street, with sidewalk seating presenting the hotel's main attraction: the Eiffel Tower. The romantic atmosphere attracts vacationing couples on short city breaks, often here for anniversaries, bucket-list trips, or other special getaways that warrant views of Paris's iconic monument.
Location
Walking distance of numerous Parisian attractions, including the Eiffel Tower
The hotel is superbly located in the 7th Arrondissement, within walking distance of some of the city's finest sights. It's less than a block from the Champ de Mars, the large lawn that leads up to the Eiffel Tower, and then it's a pleasant 10-minute stroll to its base. Also just around the corner is Rue Cler, packed with cafes and bistros, while attractions such as the Rodin and Les Invalides museums -- including the Tomb of Napoleon -- are within 10 minutes on foot. The nearby and livelier neighborhood of Montparnasse also has more dining options, as well as a plethora of movie theaters and historic cafes. The nearest metro station is Ecole Militaire, just two minutes away on foot. Paris Orly Airport is a 30-minute car trip and it's roughly a 45-minute drive to Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Rooms
Views of the Eiffel Tower from every room, some from small balconies
There aren't many hotel's in Paris that can claim a view of the Eiffel Tower from every guest room, but Hotel La Comtesse is one of them. Six rooms have full frontal views, and the rest have partial views, some that involve neck-stretching to catch a glimpse. Some can be enjoyed from small balconies (for a supplement) and in one room -- the Comtesse -- guests don't even need to leave their bed. All units were updated in 2016, with bright and chic contemporary decor accented with 18th-century themed touches, such as playful quill-style pens and period-inspired furniture. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, large smart TVs, well-stocked minibars, and kettles with free coffee and tea. Upgraded perks include Bluetooth speakers and espresso machines. In-room Wi-Fi is free of charge and generally fast. Bathrooms are relatively large (for the room), with marble tiling and quality fixtures. Most have walk-in rainfall showers, along with heated towel racks and luxury organic toiletries. Some have small bathtubs with open showers, and floors can get wet and slippery. Units start at 150 square feet.
