Hotel Galileo is a 27-room boutique property where modern chic meets the past -- a 17th century fireplace mixes with Art Deco in the lobby. Located on a quiet street two blocks off the famed Champs-Elysees, the hotel is within walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe and Avenue Montaigne, a haute couture mecca of luxury fashion boutiques. Rooms can be small (although suites are available and some rooms can be combined) but all are stylish, clean, and attentively decorated. The hotel itself is also small, but a charming little bar and breakfast room provide great spaces to relax or meet with friends.
Scene
This former Parisian townhouse combines modern chic with a homey feel.
The renovated Hotel Galileo, decorated by designer Natasha Stojkovic, combines modern styling, playful colors (there's a lot of purple), and quirky art pieces with nods to the past -- a 17th-century fireplace sits easily with the high-tech, 21st-century lighting above the bar and reception desk. There is a sunny, small wooden terrace in the middle of the hotel, and a winding staircase sports graphic carpeting. The Galileo, owned by Roland and Elisabeth Buffat, who also own Hotel des Deux-Iles and Hotel de Lutece on St-Louis-en-l'Ile, exudes the cozy elegance of a lovely, stylish home.
Location
The location serves tourists and business travelers alike.
Two blocks off the Champs-Elysees, the hotel is a 10-minute walk to the Arc de Triumph and is surrounded by restaurants, cafes, clubs, and shops. While the Eiffel Tower is about a half-hour away on foot, its lights can be seen during a nighttime stroll. The Georges V metro station is within a five-minute walk, and its Line 1 stops at such major sites as the Grand Palais, Place de la Concord, the Tuileries, and the Louvre. Going west in the opposite direction, Line 1 also stops at La Defense, one of Europe's biggest financial hubs, which can make the Galileo a convenient choice for business travelers.
Rooms
Rooms are chic and modern, though some are small.
The rooms, which include suites, range in size from small to fairly large, but thoughtful design and great lighting make them all feel comfortable, sophisticated, and perhaps a bit larger than they really are. Bathrooms have sleek, modern fixtures and walk-in showers. Thoughtful touches include fresh flowers, quality linens, and coffee and tea. Rooms have flat-screen TVs with satellite reception that includes French and foreign channels, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The Deluxe Veranda Room on the top floor includes a small, bright living room with a veranda topped by skylights, and the Executive Triple Room has a separate seating area. Some of the Class and Traditional Rooms can be combined.
Features
Handsome bar, lovely breakfast, and free Wi-Fi
The hotel serves a continental breakfast for a fee in a bright, pretty room adorned with fresh flowers and bistro-style artwork (or breakfast can be brought to guests' rooms). The small, cozy bar is a great spot to savor a glass of wine, unwind, and meet friends. Wi-Fi is free, and the concierges are fluent in several languages.
