The Hotel Etoile
Trocadero is a small, basic hotel located in the 16th arrondissement in the western part of Paris. The location is excellent for visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées, and there are plenty of transportation options nearby for reaching other parts of the city.
Rooms have an attractive, classic look but are are on the small side and can be noisy; some of the bathrooms are showing signs of mold. With few facilities, the hotel experience is a
little underwhelming, and the rates aren't that cheap. It's worth considering if you can
find a deal; otherwise the nearby Hotel Longchamp Elysees represents better
value for money.
Scene
Average independent hotel with intimate ambience
From arrival at
its unassuming Parisian facade to entering the small reception, first
impressions of the Hotel Etoile Trocadero are relatively underwhelming. The
lobby's checked tile floors and dark-wood furnishings feel homey, while attentive staff give this
independent hotel a more personal touch.
That said, the lack of any real public space can also make the atmosphere feel a
little close, even claustrophobic in the hotel's single, tiny elevator that
services its four floors. Guests are largely couples looking for somewhere
simple and unpretentious lay their heads after a day exploring the French
capital.
Location
In Paris's picturesque 16th arrondissement, walking distance from the Eiffel Tower and Champs-Elysées
The hotel is
located on a pleasant residential street of Hausmannian-style buildings in the 16th arrondissement, in the
west of Paris. It's very well situated for exploring the city's major attractions, including the iconic Eiffel Tower -- barely 15 minutes away on
foot -- or the Arc de Triomphe, about 10 minutes in the opposite direction. Under
the arch is also the Charles de Gaulle - Étoile transport hub, providing both
Metro and RER train connections throughout Paris and beyond. Alternatively, the
city center -- home to Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre museum -- is about 20
minutes by cab or metro; the nearest metro stop is just down the block.
Rooms
Basic rooms with minibars and flat-screen TVs -- though some have issues
Small rooms are
to be expected in Paris, and those at the Hotel Etoile Trocadero are no exception. Decor is
pleasant enough -- pink and purple stripes, red coverlets, some "vintage" photographs on the walls -- but showing a bit of wear, such as nicks on the furniture. Minibars and
flat-screen TVs come standard, as does air-conditioning (though there have
been reports of noisy units). Bathrooms are standard white tile, with
wall-mounted hairdryers; and some are showing signs of mold. Rooms also aren't
particularly well soundproofed -- internally or externally. Some guests complain of cleanliness issues.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, and breakfast for a fee
Being such a
small hotel, Hotel Etoile Trocadero offers little in the way of facilities. A continental
breakfast of pastries, yogurts, and cereals is served in the windowless
breakfast room -- but it is not included in the rate, and there are
plenty of cafes in the surrounding area. Reliable Wi-Fi, however, is free
of charge throughout the property.
