Bottom Line

In a city of overpriced and often rundown budget hotels, the Hotel du Printemps is a breath of fresh air -- it's tasteful, clean, and has great transport links close by. Don't expect spacious rooms or much in the way of facilities, but the basics such as free Wi-Fi and organic toiletries are a nice touch. It's a bit of a trip into the center, so the location won't appeal to everyone, but such low rates within city limits are hard to find.

Scene

Inconspicuous hotel with tasteful interiors and quiet courtyard

Painted in muted tones with discreet signage and a featureless facade which blends seamlessly into its suburban surroundings, the Hotel du Printemps is easy to miss from the street. Inside, too, the decor is muted and unpretentious, with stone walls and exposed beige beams that create an understated rustic charm. Tasteful modern furnishings centered around a log fireplace also give a homey feel, while carpeted corridors lead to stairwells and out to a small courtyard with potted plants and tables and chairs. The vibe is quiet and unfussy and the place is clean and renovated to a standard beyond its humble two-and-a-half pearl rating.

Location

Quiet residential area in eastern Paris, minutes from Nation transport hub

The hotel is located in a quiet residential area of the Bel-Air neighborhood in the east of Paris, three blocks from the Place de la Nation. The area is peaceful and charming, with tree-lined roads surrounded by restaurants, bakeries, and bars. The nearest metro stop is Picpus, which connects to southern Paris. The Nation station, a five-minute walk away, is one of the capital's busiest metro hubs. From here, one can get to the Champs Elysees in 30 minutes or the Eiffel Tower in 40 minutes. The nearby Boulevard Peripherique also means easy access by car in and out of Paris. Charles de Gaulle Airport is a one-hour drive away.

Rooms

Soundproofed and air-conditioned rooms with organic toiletries and free Wi-Fi

The Hotel du Printemps has 38 rooms in total, all of which follow a similar styling of simple neutral tones with clean wood floors, modern floral prints, and refurbished colonial-style furnishings. Furniture and paint looks fresh. Bathrooms tend to be small, but are excellently finished with contemporary fixtures, wall-mounted hairdryers, and organic toiletries. Rooms are generally on the small side, but are soundproofed, with street-facing windows that overlook a line of pretty trees. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.

Features

Breakfast buffet, cozy lounge, and secluded outdoor patio

The hotel serves a buffet breakfast each morning (for an additional fee) in a room with tan stone walls and slate floors with modern chairs in two tones of olive. A cozy lounge with a small book collection (including titles in English) and a secluded outdoor courtyard with chairs, tables, and potted plants provide space to unwind. Wi-Fi access is free throughout the hotel and there is also an Internet terminal that guests can use free of charge. There is no parking on-site, but there is a public parking lot nearby.
