The 35-room Classics
Hotel Bastille is a mid-range hotel situated in Paris's 11th arrondissement close to the Charonne Metro stop. The hotel doesn't impress much
from the outside, but interiors have nice contemporary flourishes and the rear
secluded garden is a real bonus. Rooms are small but modern with stylish accents and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, kettles, and safes. Lack of air-conditioning can be an issue during the summer. There is a sunny breakfast room with a glass roof overlooking the garden. Despite some shortcomings, this hotel is a good value option.
Scene
Modern value hotel
From its wholly
nondescript signage to its unremarkable, modern facade, first impressions of
the Classics Hotel Bastille are more than a little underwhelming. Stepping
inside, the lobby has contemporary furnishings and a smart gray reception desk, but this
makeover doesn't quite stretch to the largely drab hallways. The breakfast room is set in a sunny conservatory, however, and it overlooks a pretty, plant-filled garden which is a secluded and restful space to unwind.
Location
Set in the 11th arrondissement, close to Charonne Metro and the Père Lachaise cemetery
The hotel is
located in a very non-touristy neighborhood in the 11th arrondissement, between
Place de la Bastille and Père Lachaise cemetery in the east of Paris. While
there's not much in the way of tourist attractions in the immediate area, there
are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, and the nearest Metro stop --
Charonne -- is a couple minutes' walk away. Alternatively, its about a 20-minute
cab journey to the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of the
city.
Rooms
Tiny showers, but some top floor rooms have furnished patios
Renovated in
2013, the hotel's 35 rooms are pleasantly finished in simple modern styling
with wooden floors, contemporary furnishings, and black-and-white photographs
of Old Paris. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi and 32-inch flat-screen
TVs, though there are no minibars nor air-conditioning (which can be a problem in the
summer). Bathrooms are clean and modern with wall-mounted hair dryers, but the
showers are very small. A big plus is that some top floor rooms have a furnished
patio area overlooking the Paris roofline (although you'll pay extra).
Features
Buffet breakfast and secluded, plant-filled garden
The hotel serves
a buffet breakfast (not generally included in the rate) in the rear
conservatory overlooking the small, secluded garden where it can also be taken
during warmer weather. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the property, as well as a
computer terminal for guests to use. Those arriving by car also have access to a
private parking garage, though spaces are limited.
