This boutique property, with 36 rooms and 4 suites, gets high marks for its style; picture reclaimed wood, exposed brick, real keys with tassels, and illuminated bath tubs. Rooms are tiny, but equally stylish. Though not within walking distance of most Parisian attracts, the hotel's suburban location stretches the travel budget and the metro and rail are very close by. A nice breakfast buffet is offered for a surcharge but nearby bakeries and cafes are a good alternative as well. Otherwise, there are few on-site amenities besides a small garden area.
Scene
Trendy hotel with tiny rooms attracts couples
The small lobby here doubles as a lounge with a tufted brown leather Chesterfield sofa, modern fireplace, and an honor bar shaped liked a vintage steamer trunk stocked with wine and spirits. There's also a free computer station and many tourist pamphlets available. With few on-site amenities and close quarters, the hotel largely attracts couples.
Location
Off the beaten path as far as tourist attractions, but in the midst of a vibrant local neighborhood
Situated on a narrow street lined with many cafes, patisseries, grocery stores, and everyday services (laundry, dry cleaning, beauty salons) that cater to locals, the hotel is a bit too far removed to walk to most attractions. Convenient public transportation, however, will get you there without the big price tag of a room in central Paris. The Atelier Montparnasse is only a few doors down from The Pernety station on Metro line 13, which will get you to Champs-Elysées, Saint Lazare, Saint-Germain, and Saint-Michel in less than 20 minutes. The Gare Montparnasse railway station is about a 15-minute walk away.
Rooms
Small with tiny bathrooms, but stylish
Modern rooms feature nature-inspired decor with a brown and tan color scheme, linen throw pillows, and tables made with reclaimed-wood. In the standard room, the tiny bathroom is attractively tiled and sports a huge rainhead shower fixture; towels sit on a heated rack. The Double Supérieure is more spacious and has an over-sized headboard made of brown tufted leather. While the toilet is in its own little closet, the sink and tub are open to the room in a little alcove. The step up to the tiled alcove is outfitted with LED lighting and the tub can be illuminated. All rooms have stocked mini-fridges and Pascal Morabito toiletries; suites also have Nespresso machines.
Features
Little beyond daily breakfast and free Wi-Fi
The hotel's small common spaces -- including the lobby (complete with an honest bar), breakfast room, and garden -- are chic spots for gathering pre or post a day spent shopping and sight-seeing. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, but otherwise there are very few features; there's no spa, fitness center, or full restaurant.
