The 41-room Art Hotel Congres is a boutique located on a quiet street on the outskirts of Paris. This value property has a few nice extras, including airport transfers (for a fee), 24-hour front desk service, concierge service, and a small furnished terrace. There is also a modern buffet breakfast room. Rooms are clean and have contemporary bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, safes, and mini-fridges but some decor is worn and some fixtures are damaged. The competitively priced La Maison Montparnasse has facilities that are reportedly better maintained, but its rooms do not provide air-conditioning. Wi-Fi is free.
Scene
Budget boutique with a small library lounge, terrace, and a contemporary breakfast room
The five-story Art Hotel Congres is an affordable option in Paris, appealing to couples on a budget. The exterior blends in with the nearby Parisian architecture. Large lobby windows are on the street level and intricate iron railings are attached to room windows. First opened in 2010, this hotel offers budget-friendly rooms in a location on the fringes of the city’s center, removed from the tourist attractions.A glass door entrance on the street leads into the lobby, with modern leather tufted chairs -- albeit a bit worn -- and bookshelves. Parisian inspired decor (think mini Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe sculptures) decorate the lobby. There's a small elevator near the wooden front desk and a glowing faux tree by a window. Narrow hallways are standard, but some have stains on the carpeting. More lounge furniture and a mounted flat-screen TV are by the glass patio door. The small terrace offers casual patio furniture with ashtrays and potted green plants. A contemporary breakfast room -- accessible via the elevator or a winding staircase -- is decorated in wooden wall panels and light wooden chairs. The atmosphere overall is relaxed and casual.
Location
On the outskirts of Paris, in the 17th arrondissement
The hotel is located on a one-way street, with minimal traffic noise. Multi-ethnic restaurants are numerous in the neighborhood. The Paris sights, though, are a bit removed from the location. It’s a five-minute walk to the Brochant Metro station, and Montmartre is 20 minutes away on foot. The farmers market, Rêve le Marché aux Fleurs, is a 25-minute Metro ride away, the Congress Palace is a 11-minute car ride, and the famous Arc de Triomphe, in the middle of Place Charles de Gaulle, is 16 minutes by car. The Louvre Museum is a 19-minute drive and The Eiffel Tower is a 21-minute drive. It’s a 28-minute drive to the airport.
Rooms
Clean, simple rooms with flat-screen TVs, street views, and safes
Categories include Standard Single, Double, and Twin Rooms. There are also Double Rooms with direct access to the hotel’s patio. Air-conditioning, bathrobes, safes, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and free Wi-Fi are in all rooms. Modern neutral-colored furnishings, headboard reading lamps, mini-fridges with free bottled water, leather office chairs, writing desks, and striped carpeting are all standard. Rooms are clean, but furniture and decor are often scuffed and curtains are sometimes in disrepair. Windows overlook the courtyard or streets. Sleek, contemporary fixtures are in bathrooms that offer shower/tub combos or showers, heated towel racks, and hairdryers. Roll-in showers are available.
