Bottom Line

The mid-range Acrothea Hotel is a casual, yet charming, family-run boutique in the center of Parga. It's located just above the picturesque pier and is only 10 minutes on foot to Krioneri Beach. The 19 rooms are a bit old-fashioned looking, but cheerily decorated and they feature gorgeous sea or city views from the various outdoor terraces. Although the hotel is small and lacks amenities like a pool and gym, hospitality gets especially high marks. Staff personally provides airport transfers and breakfast buffets are included. Pets are even welcome for free with advance notice. Travelers wanting to be closer to the larger beaches may prefer the Vargos Beach & Gogozotos Residence, which has a pool and more of a beachside resort vibe.

Acrothea Hotel

Scene

Cheery and clean family-run property; amphitheater style allows for beautiful views

It’s hard to miss the Acrothea’s lipstick-red exteriors, which make for a cheery welcome to the small and friendly family-run property. Despite being built in 2008, the hotel’s rounded Roman arches and hipped roofs point to clear Neoclassical influences, and its amphitheater-like shape allows for beautiful, almost panoramic views of the harbor and old town. Interiors are clean but lack common areas; external hallways are lined with potted plants and seating verandas. Dining terraces encourage guests to spend a majority of their time outside. Charming and casual, the hotel mostly attracts couples.

Location

In central Parga, just above the harbor; a 10-minute walk to Krioneri Beach and Castle of Parga

The hotel is easily accessible by the main road to the historic town center, and is 10 minutes on foot to the beautiful Krioneri Beach (Parga, Valtos, and Lichnos Beaches are all about seven-minute drives away). There are also steps from the hotel leading directly to the restaurant-lined pier, from where taxi boats to Parga Beach and nearby islands like Paxos and Antipaxos are available. Other tourist attractions, including the Castle of Parga and the Paragaea Old Olive Oil Factory, both under 10-minute walks away. Despite the hotel’s close proximity to the port and town, complaints about noise are rare. Preveza Airport is about an hour away by car.

Rooms

Exceptionally clean -- with air-conditioning and mini-fridges; stunning views from private furnished balconies

Rooms are kept in top-notch condition. Incredibly well-maintained decor goes the classic (and old fashioned) route with gold finials on the bed frames, vintage white bedside tables and dressers, and Italian flower ceiling lamps. In some rooms patterned bedspreads and thick drapes give the spaces a heavier, dated look. Framed seaside-themed paintings are a nod to the coastal location. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Suites and Apartments add filter coffee machines.

For more space, Deluxe and Superior Rooms are available. A Deluxe Suite comes with a separate living room. The two-bedroom Apartment has bunk beds, plus a well-equipped kitchenette.

Blue and white tiled bathrooms are clean and decently sized. Most have walk-in showers with handheld showerheads, though Suites and Apartments do have shower/tub combos with handheld showerheads. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided in all bathrooms. All rooms have private furnished balconies (though most are directly next to the neighboring room and divided by a short railing) with breathtaking Ionian Sea or old town views.

Features

Freebies of hot buffet breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking

The hotel's central location is its best feature. There isn't a full restaurant or bar, but breakfast is included with rates and served in the indoor reception area or a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. The buffet is substantial and includes cereals, toast, Greek yogurt, pastries, savory pies, coffee, and omelets.

A small library is provided so guests can read or relax. Laptops and DVDs are available to rent for extra fees. In the absence of a business center, guests can use the computer and faxing services at the reception desk. Wi-Fi throughout the property is free. Laundry service is available during select days of the week. The hotel does allow pets upon advance notice for no extra charge. Free on-site parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
