Hotel Fidalgo goa
18 18'th June Road

Perhaps Panaji's best-known hotel, Hotel Fidalgo is a three-and-a-half-pearl city center hotel popular with tourists and business travelers alike. The 101 air-conditioned rooms and suites are pleasant and well maintained, and many have city views. But it's the dining options that really stand out with multiple restaurants that attract plenty of regular local customers and offer a variety of regional Indian specialties along with Goan mainstays and all-you-can-eat buffets. There's also a spa, a fitness center, and the requisite outdoor swimming pool, along with six meeting spaces, the largest of which can seat up to 350 people. While this is one of the best places to stay in town without having to spend a fortune, the lack of parking might drive guests elsewhere, such as the more budget-friendly Ginger Goa near the bus stand.

Hotel Palacio De Goa
Dr. Gama Pinto Road, Behind Pharmacy College

Hotel Palacio De Goa is a budget city hotel located in the heart of Panaji, Goa's capital city, about a seven-minute drive from Miramar Beach. The 55 rooms and suites are modern and bright, with air-conditioning and up to five beds -- many units also have balconies with street views. Facilities are on the short side, with no fitness center, pool, or spa. However, there's a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating that's open for all three meals and offers room service. Free parking is available, along with a small (if dark) conference room. Overall, this property offers good value and lovely rooms, but those wanting a few more facilities could splurge for a stay at the landmark Hotel Fidalgo nearby, which has an outdoor pool and a small spa -- but higher rates.

Ginger Goa
Plot No. 37, 38, SGO Complex, EDC, Pato, Near Passport Office

Ginger Goa is a low-key, two-and-a-half pearl city chain hotel near the Panaji bus stand. The hotel offers simple and reliable --  but not particularly well-maintained -- digs on a budget. The 137 rooms are on the shabby side, with light-wood furniture that shows signs of wear and tear, and many have views out on a nearby construction site. That said, they come with perks such as flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. The facilities here outshine the rooms, and include a fitness center and a restaurant with good coffee and room service. Overall, it's a good place to stay if you're looking for a cheap and simple place to lay your head in Panaji, but it's worthwhile comparing rates and amenities at some of the more charming local options, such as Afonso Guest House.
